Just as I was about to cruise through another summer, carefree and semi-comatose, I realized I had a column to write. So, we begin, after a brief pause to welcome you all to another year of class notes (only Josselyn's wife and I were dumb enough not to ask him how long our respective jobs lasted) which feature all sorts of new high-tech features including, without limitation (as we attorneys say), the following: a new "drive-thru" window, for those who want to read in your vehicles, and the "cellular column," for those who want guaranteed access to the column with complete privacy. Of course, for you traditionalists, we will still have the regular, original format column, now known as "Column Classic."

As you probably guessed from all the above petty prattling, your teller of tales is incredibly indigent in the hot news category this month. Just as this issue was going to the press, I was lucky to get a call from first-time correspondent Marian"Katy" Lebowitz. Since it was her first go-round with the oversigned, I was particularly sensitive to her needs but did manage to elicit the following: Katy and David Lockard became the latest all-'76 duo when they were married in Philadelphia last May. Scott Fraser, Meg McLaughlin, Michelle Murray, MelanieRinchner and Mark Lebowitz '77 were all in attendance. Katy and David are both barristers; she graduated from Boalt and he from Hastings, both in 1980. They recently moved to Center City, Philadelphia, and invite all classmates, etc., to stop by.

On the home front, my wife, Kathleen, and I have a new tenant. Riley O. was born in May. Like his Dad, he doesn't miss many meals, so he's already wearing 12-month size clothes. My mature, sophisticated reaction to this behemoth baby has been to place a tape loop under his bed that soothingly repeats, "full ride, NFL, full ride, NFL, Dad's retirement, full ride ..." Also, I have accepted a position at a new (for me) law firm, Sparber, Shevin where I will continue concentrating in corporate and securities law. For you devotees of the financial markets, my clients give a new meaning to the term "junk bonds."

Some '76ers whom I have seen or heard from include Peter Jeton, who stopped by on his way from Boston to the Rio Clinic of Spontaneous Chiropractic, and TomReinhart, who has apparently exhausted his opportunities in New York and has relocated in San Francisco. Seamus Hourihan continues his relentless pursuit of the perfect Bloody Mary in Marblehead between J-24 sailboat races, while JohnReidy reportedly is running for mayor of Charlestown on a "Tanks for Cranks" platform. Jeff Hillebrand's kids, unfortunately, got caught in the Chicago-area salmonella outbreak while Jeff was once again spared any discomfort by sticking solely to distilled liquids. Tom Parnon reports that he has finally decided all those magic hair creams he's been buying are worthless, so he is now investing in Walter Mondale memorabilia.
