Another dry month I have been too much involved with moving (physically and emotionally) into my new status as a happy Atlanta bridegroom to implement plans for generating input from my bashful (but not indifferent, I hope) classmates. Material for the next issue should be in good supply, after seeing 80 or 100 of you all (that southern influence already!) at the September mini-reunion.
Which brings up something that probably should be clarified: the timeliness of class notes. The deadline requirements of the Magazine are such that this column, which is supposed to be in Hanover by September 15th, will reach you two months later. So what I am writing on September 10th will not reach your eyes until sometime around November 15th. If it seems a little old, that's the reason. By the same token, anything you send me before the 10th of any month will not appear in print for more than two months at a minimum. The merits of patience as a virtue grow more apparent as we grow older.
As for news on hand, the only item of any substance is a communique from the Cape Cod contingent of The Great Class, courtesy of my esteemed colleague, SaxZiemen. Space being available, here is most of the report verbatim:
"The class on Cape Cod held its annual summer meeting on August 21 at OscarCahoon's home in Harwichport. Sharing the noisy but delicious evening were Dickand Lib Kenney of Chatham; Bucks andJean Weil, temporarily also of Chatham; A 1 and Marianne Dodd of Osterville; Boband Lois McLellan of South Yarmouth; John and Helen Wallace of Wellfleet; and Sax and Carolyne Ziemen, temporarily of East Orleans.
"The traditional cannon was 'at the ready' this time in early celebration of the Dodd's 50th wedding anniversary. The Cahoon volley, always the first, started some reaction from the neighbors' artillery; we gave them one more shot and returned to the party.
"Eileen Cahoon, a gourmet cook, served a buffet both delicious and delicate, and in the toasting and clinking of glasses, Bud did himself proud."
Last month, lacking anything better, I reported non-activities, and a few months earlier some 20-year-old action. For this issue, I thought you might want to test yourselves on some class trivia involving facts and figures: A. The total number of '35s in service between 1941 and 1945 was approximately: 1) 285 2) 320 3) 365 Just for the heck of it, in case any of you are interested enough, I will accept postcard solutions until November 31, with each of the three best scores to receive one of Yank Price's handsome Zodiac money clips (retail value $20.00) decisions of the judge to be unassailable, of course. Solutions should be in the form A-1, B-3, etc., (if you think A-1 and B-3 are the correct answers). Solutions in that form will be appended to the next column. With your solutions, a little news about yourself (I hope), and your Zodiac sign, should be included.
So much for this month's nonsense. Peace and love to you all. All you all!
