Greetings, campers. Hope you are all snug as bugs in your respective rugs as summer becomes a memory and winter a harsh realty (poetic, eh?). Without any more ado, here is this month's news.

Britt and Kip Hall joyfully announce the birth of a son, Justin James ("JJ"), on June 15. All I know other than that is the return address where the joyous trio presumably live Pelham, N.Y.

"Diane Flannery, an M.B.A. candidate, to marry James T. Knight, a lawyer" screams the headline in the New YorkTimes. Further perusal reveals that "J.T." is an associate at Simpson Thacher in the Apple, while Miss F. toils at Wharton. Congratulations, and thanks to Os Skinner '28 for the info.

Continuing the class's well-known wanderlust, Mark D'Anastasio was recently named Moscow bureau chief for the WallStreet Journal. Mark previously held the same position for McGraw Hill World News. This obviously is a great honor and one that might qualify Mark, if he is lucky, to serve as an intern on my multi-layered staff.

Switching back to nuptial news, Dr.Donald "Rocko" Colacchio recently married Deborah Pickering, originally from Barrington, R.I. The doc went to Dartmouth Med and is now a surgical resident at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo if the drifts are ten feet high, this must be February N.Y. Deborah is a registered nurse at Buffalo Children's Hospital, and, I might add, one awfully attractive lady if her pic in the Providence Sunday Sun Tattler is any indication.

The Mayo Foundation, which is not an institute dedicated to the study of sandwich condiments, proudly announced in September that Leo J. Maguirre III has been appointed to the staff of the department of ophthalmology at, you guessed it, the Mayo Clinic. After Dartmouth, Leo attended the Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philly (not to be confused with Millard Fillmore Hospital, see above), completed a residency at the Kellogg Eye Center at Ann Arbor in 1984, and a fellowship in corneal surgery at LSU in 1986.

Whew, from this report, it is obvious we have got some seriouly talented folks in our class. Does being able to chug while standing on your head count? In any case, as the prince of blends, I would like to segue into an emotional appeal to your wallets now that I have got your class spirit at a fever pitch. To wit, please start thinking about our reunion and a special reunion gift to the College. If it is still 1986, it may make more sense taxwise to make a gift now. Even if it is not financially motivated, your gift could help us do well in fund-raising as compared to the other reunion classes, particularly '77 and '78, with whom we will be reuriioning. You all remember that being the first coed, Dartmouth Plan, etc., class, we have always gotten extra scrutiny, and I am sure we will now, too. So take a moment to reflect on Dartmouth's contribution to your particular version of success and make an extra effort for your tenth reunion gift. I am sure we will all get lots of propaganda from the College as the year progresses, but let's preempt that with a spontaneous gift.

Enough of the heavy stuff. Do you know how to tell the difference between a dead animal lying on the road and dead lawyer lying on the road? The dog is the one with the skid marks nearby. If you don't hear from me before then, have a happy holiday season and great 1987.

Adios.

Having a great time in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota recently were, fromleft to right, Mike Fried '76, his wife, Leslie Kenney '77, and Gregg Kelley '75. See the '77 columnfor more details.
