In last month's column we mentioned the great '54 turnout for the annual Winter Festival Weekend in mid-February. John Gillespie sent the enclosed photograph as proof of the fact that a great and distinguished group of '54s was in attendance and that a grand time was had by all. Included in the photograph was Wayne Weil, Harry Robinson, Dick Page,John Heston, Dana Low, John Gillespie,Rick Hartman, John Pope, Dave Fitch,Bruce Maclvor, Bob Dean, Bill White,Dick Fowler, Don Berlin, Dave McLaughlin, and Hugh Roberts. Also in attendance but not available for the photograph were John Steele, Tom Kelsey, Lyon Greenberg, Bruce McAllister,Seaver Peters, Dick Plummer, and DaveSices. Rumor has it that the whole weekend was a Gillespie promotion to up attendance at the Hanover Inn where John serves as cochairman of the board of overseers and Herb Hillman is a distinguished member of the board.

Those of you who are young enough at heart to watch MTV might recently have had the opportunity to see Bob Rafaelson's "The Monkees" brought back to life again. For those of you who don't remember, Bob Rafaelson was responsible for creating the Monkees in the sixties and for their success as a singing and comedy group. Bob recognized at that time the great appeal of the Beatles and decided that a group created in their image would have a great appeal to young America, and he was proven right. I understand there is now some discussion about bringing the "Monkees" back in the eighties. Who knows what imaginative ideas lie in the mind of the creative Bob Rafaelson.

The Annual Dartmouth Alumni Association for Eastern Massachusetts dinner this month in Boston had a particular '54 flavor. The program for the dinner recognized faculty members who have been recipients of Distinguished Teaching Awards. As you all know, these awards were established and are funded by JerryGoldstein. In addition, our own CharlieMorrison, the retiring president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association for Eastern Massachusetts as well as the past president for the Tuck Alumni Association of Boston and the member of almost every other Dartmouth-oriented alumni organization of the region, was presented with the alumni award by our most visible Dartmouth '54, Dave McLaughlin. It is an honor for the class to have one of its own recognized for this prestigious award, and it is even more of an honor to the class to count among its numbers as outstanding a human being as Charlie Morrison.

Katherine Donovan '87 has been selected as the Class of 1954 Intern under the program funded by the class at the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences. Katherine, who is an English major with an emphasis on Spanish and who has a heavy involvement in government and political causes, will serve her internship in the office of Vice President George Bush. Catherine is from Rocky River, Ohio, where she distinguished herself as an outstanding track athlete and academically as a winner of a National Merit scholarship. At Dartmouth Katherine has continued her academic achievement and her athletic achievement on the varsity track team. The class is proud to offer the Class of 1954 Internship to Katherine Donovan.

Have a nice summer, and let's hear more from you.
