Considerable news has gathered during the one month writing respite over the holidays. First, some elaboration on last fall's news of John Rosenwald's appointment to serve a maximum of two fiveyear terms on the College's Board of Trustees. In its September announcement, the Dartmouth mentioned Rosie's background as a Tuck graduate, a current member of the office of the president of Bear Stearns in New York, and his previous service on the governing boards of Deerfield Academy, the New York University Medical Center, and the College's , Rockefeller Center for Social Sciences. John has already been assigned to the following committees of the Board: budget, development and alumni affairs, and executive. President McLaughlin described John as follows: "He brings a unique combination of sensibilities and skills to the Board. John knows how one organizes a fund-raising campaign and the importance of cultivating major givers and bringing them closer to the College." The article also mentions the establishment last June of the Pat and John Rosenwald Professorship, funded at $1.25 million. Short in stature, but long in accomplishments over the years, John makes a fine addition to the Board. His addition to the commencement processions of faculty and trustees in the long black robes and funny hats will be an interesting sight!

Thanks to Charles Donovan '43 and Bill Minehan '3l, we have news about HankSperka and Bill Randall, respectively. Hank has been a well known and re- spected TV personality on Action News for many years. He and Helene have decided to semiretire to Stuart, Fla., where they both hope to remain active in their re- spective fields of TV syndication and ad- vertising. The news clipping sent with Charles's letter says "it doesn't seem likely that Philadelphia news will be the same without the 6-foot plus, white haired, deep voiced Sperka who amused, outraged and entertained the Delaware Valley for the past 20 years." Hank is the last member of the original Action News team. Bill Minehan writes of his pleasure in reading to a local Milwaukee alumni crowd the Alumni Council's citation of Bill Randall for the Dartmouth Alumni Award. The pre-Christmas holiday gathering, including current and prospective students, was most impressed to hear about Bill's accomplishments over the years. A true Dartmouth family Bill's dad, Cliff Randall was '27, and two of his children graduated, Rebecca '8l and Kevin '85.

Vince Jones, previously senior vice president and general counsel of Sears, Roebuck & Company's Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group, was recently elevated to a senior executive position as vice president and general counsel of Sears's Merchandise Group. In the same week that the Wall Street Journal mentioned Vince's promotion last fall, Jack Creamer's naming to the board of directors of Echlin Inc., a Connecticut-based maker of motor vehicle replacement parts, was noted. Although he is now the president of his own marketing consulting firm, Distribution Marketing Services, Inc., Jack brings lots of previous experience in the auto parts industry to Echlin's board. Last month the University of Texas announced the appointment of Dr. Frank Moody as the first Denton A. Cooley Professor under a newly established surgery professorship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Since 1982 Frank has been a professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery at the U.T. Medical School and surgeon-in-chief at Hermann Hospital. After Dartmouth Frank went on to obtain his medical degree at the Cornell University Medical School.

Doesn't seem possible that Gene Teev-ens's son Buddy '79 is now the head foot- ball coach in Hanover. Having been close to the whole Teevens clan for so many years, I found watching the recruiting process which led to Buddy's arrival in Hanover a most pleasant experience. The appointment was announced at an after- noon press conference on December 23, 1986 followed by a nice reception in the new boathouse facility, a very neat loca- tion for such affairs. Before the new year, he took up his position in the big office in Davis Varsity House and began to work on filling the assistant coaching positions and recruiting for the class of '91. Mature, confident and able beyond his age, I share the confidence of many other alumni that Buddy will breathe new life into our football program.

Another sad note late last fall was that Chev Haskell passed away at his home in Harvard, Mass. after a long illness. Several '52s attended the memorial service for Paul Sanderson in Suffield, Conn., his home as headmaster at the academy there for many years.
