If you've been wondering about "Joseph L. Davis," who was credited with several of the recent columns in this space, I have no idea. My middle name is Redmon, but that's a fact only a handful of past Beta pledges ever had to come to grips with. I remember that at Dartmouth, my copy of Sports Illustrated usually went into the Hinman Box of Joe Daly '71, who lived across the hall from me. I often wondered why it was only that magazine, and nothing else, which was routinely mis-routed. Nowadays, I commonly get mail addressed to Joseph Hillstrom or Hillstrom Davis (my wife's maiden name is Hillstrom), and to Dr. Davis, a title I eschew because my father was a physician, and I know that my Ph.D. in geology does not qualify me to make housecalls. Anyway, let this serve as an apology for any past or future liberties which the typographers and I may have taken with your name.

Our belated baby boom continues. At the time this column goes to press in early March, Charles and Dana Nearburg are anxiously awaiting the birth of their second child here in Dallas, and Tom and KarenKavanaugh their first in Sobiski, Wise. Tom has been with Fort Howard Paper in Sobiski since 1979 and continues to enjoy everything about Wisconsin with the possible exception of the winters.

Most of the news this month comes from some of my former neighbors in New Hampshire Hall. Recent news items about the impending bankruptcy of Shanley Oil Company brought a flurry of clippings to Gary Shanley's mailbox. Fortunately, there is no relationship between Shanley Oil and Gary's company, Glider Oil Company, which Gary has recently relocated from his hometown of Oswego, N.Y., to Syracuse. Gary and wife Ginny are living in a Syracuse suburb and are attempting to track down his elusive former roommate, BobBassett. Bob has reportedly left Anchorage, Alaska, for the warmer climes of St. Louis, Mo., but has failed to keep his classmates informed of his new address. Also in the unconfirmed category is my former roommate, Dan Holland, who reportedly has also moved from Anchorage to Puerto Rico.

Gary Dicovitsky is settling into his new job at the University of Virginia and reports a recent conversation with Dave Chatel, who is a development officer in Rhode Island. By the time this column reaches you, Jack Manning will have returned from a rugby tour of Australia and New Zealand and will be traveling to Hanover for the annual alumni game. Sounds like Great Falls, Mont., is a great base for exotic travel.

Other New Hamp-related news gets pretty sketchy, but includes Bob Morrison,Bob King, and Roger Curley attending football games this fall, and Dan Moors's report of seeing Dougal McDonnell in Florida last year. At last report, Don Hooper,Dave Engle, and Geoff Clear were still in the Boston area, Dennis Austin in Montana, Wade Judge in Chicago, Rick Zimmerman in Ohio, Jack Chambers in San Diego, and Marty Cain in Washington, D.C. Several other former New Hamp residents have been mentioned in recent columns, including Brook McCann, AndersPersson, Dave Bailey, Bob Jeffe, R.C. Paul,Ted Agoos, and Joel Hyatt, but I'm wondering what happened to the likes of FredCraigie, Skip Hancock, Mike Harris, JeffPulis, Jeff Stimson, Paul Wheeler, and Wade Wheelock. I'd be happy to pass on your news or expand that list if you'll drop me a note. Otherwise, I may have to resort to rumor and innuendo, or devote a whole column to observations from my job on the Kleen Laundry truck I can't remember all the names, but your sheets, towels, and room numbers are permanently etched in my brain so, please write.
