Hank Greer called the other day, ostensibly to inquire about an idea we had discussed a couple of years ago. In fact, he wanted to slip me a zinger. First he said, "Give me a call." Then he said, "I'll be away for two weeks, diving on Grand Cayman Island with my son and Jim Houser and some of his boys." That's one of my lines! Apparently, these two have made the trek for many years with various members of their combined families. Grand Cayman is a good spot for diving, off-shore banking and sunbathing.

Phil Kron asked me to place the following classified ad, with strings attached. For many years, the class executive committee has had its annual meeting at the Moose Mountain Lodge in Etna in conjunction with Dartmouth Night. Some years we have a full house, some not so full. (I think there's a correlation with the football team's record.) Anyway, it's a great spot to spend the weekend. Kay Shumway cooks up a super-calorific breakfast and an incredible Saturday dinner. The accommodations are informal and comfortable, sort of familystyle. The hooker is that we have to guarantee Peter Shumway a full house. So here's the offer. If you are interested in staying at Moose Mountain with the rather unsavory executive committee October 30-31 (Yale game), contact Rick Lyman (who has never run out of beer while at the lodge), 38 Banks St., Simsbury, CT 06070. Phone 203/658-0519. He will maintain a waiting list which he will activate on September 15 if the executive committee hasn't already filled the beds. It's a fun time of relaxed sharing.

In the flash update on our 50th birthday party, April 30-May 1, 1988, Jay Emery said it's never too late to drop him a line if you are interested. His address: Blunt Alumni Center, Hanover, NH 03755. The initial postcard response contained a few comments of literary note: Charlie Radigan thought it was a "good idea!" while Bruce Drucker was willing to rate it "an excellent idea." Rollie Kolman wasn't willing to commit himself too heavily, but acknowledged that it "sounds like a great idea!" With all the polish of a lifetime on Madison Avenue, Jim Adler pulled out all the stops, to wit: "sounds like a marvelous event." In a more personal vein Chuck Darrow may have revealed incipient hardening of the arteries with this beaut. "Can't think of anyone I'd rather grow old with than Straus." And finally, this attempted put-down, "I assume I'll be able to attend even though only 49." Well, Thomas H. Trimarco, didn't they ever teach you to never assume anything?

Probably the most interesting fact on Jay's official tally sheets is the absence of five names from those who indicated they would or might attend this bash, Mickey Straus, Spence Morgan, Allen Stowe, Arnie Sigler and Alex vonSummer, the committee. Maybe they know something! Another hint was dropped about the site of the black-tie gala. The committee was photographed with Mayor Koch at the grand opening of New York City's newest jail, a converted Staten Island ferry. The mayor justified the outrageous cost by stating that the $3-million pier on Rikers Island was built to accommodate two ferries.
