Deep in the middle of summer, not all of us are thinking of the Alumni Fund. However, enough of the class was thinking about Dartmouth earlier in the year to put us well over the top in dollar terms. Bill Cahill is to be congratulated for another fine performance. His disappointment is simply that our participation level lagged an appropriate number by most measures. Obviously the class secretary needs to do something about our class spirit. If I invited all of you to my house for a beer, you'd have to help with the divorce proceedings. As an alternate approach maybe we can all dedicate this year to a renewed interest in the College; and if you think that it's not showing in my column, then you can come over for a beer and tell me about it. In any event, three cheers for Bill.

During the course of the campaign, I had the opportunity to contact a number of our classmates and catch up on their travels. The most intriguing of these was Bill Cartmill, who is in medical practice under the logo Mousetrap Pediatrics. I wasn't quite sure whether this was simply a catchy title or described Bill's typical prescription. With two daughters of my own, I was a little leery. He assured me that it was all very innocent; and true to his word, the check was in the mail. Thanks, Bill.

I was also able to connect with FrankComito, who is living in Camden, N.J., where he has resided for about five years. Frank tells me he is working for the Federal Government (yes, ours). The description was a little vague, but no connection with Fawn Hall, I'm told.

Even Ken McKenna surfaced on the other end of the phone. He actually had me convinced that he would send money to the College, too. But it took several follow-up phone conversations and lunch with a bona fide officer of the College to pry it out of him. Ken and Linda are doing well despite that and have a nice family of three, or is it six (?). We threatened each other with a lunch date, and I am sure that we will get together before Passover.

In other news, our very own Mark Hinman announced that he would run for one of the seats on the Rome, N.Y., Board of Education. In making his announcement Mark made comments about which we can all be proud. He stated, "First and foremost I am deeply concerned about the quality of education and the level of commitment to our children's future. I believe that the commitment to education that a community makes is an accurate reflection of the community itself." Although we would all have voted for Mark, the voters of Rome did not see it that way. The good news is that one member recognized Mark's potential and resigned. Mark was appointed shortly thereafter, and Rome is now that much better for it.

I have talked to Tom Bodine in the past, usually as he was on his way to the golf course or something. Those years of "practice, practice, practice" have finally paid off with his promotion to Vice President-Life and Financial Products at Paul Revere Insurance Group. Tom will have responsibility for the management of the company's life and investment products. How he will have time for this is a mystery to me, because he is also president of the Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts. Tom lives with his wife, Marsha, and son, Nicholas, in Sterling Junction, Mass.

In Pennsylvania, acting Labor and Industry Secretary Harris L. Wofford named four aides, including Tom Foley. Tom will be serving as a deputy secretary in the department. He graduated from Yale Law School and recently served as a special assistant to U.S. Senator Joseph Biden.

Jim Vojcsik was recently appointed executive director of the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore (Maryland). As is the case with all of our classmates, Jim was described as "very highly qualified for the position." For the past five years, Jim served in management positions with the United Way of Orange County.

That is probably enough for now. I hope that you all have had a great summer, and I look forward to hearing from a number of you this year. The rest of you—l will have to settle for rumor and innuendo.
