Many of our classmates may not be fully aware of the extent to which our Memorial Scholarship Fund has grown, and what it has accomplished. Co-chairmen of the fund George Davis and Curly Prosser prepared a report for the fall mini-reunion but cancellation of that event prevented its presentation at that time. Salient points follow.

Traditionally, 55 th Reunion classes do something special for the College such as providing a bench for the campus or planting a memorial tree. However, at our 55th it was proposed that we do something more substantial. It was decided that we endeavor to establish a scholarship even though the trustees specified that this required a minimum gift of $50,000. At that time 86 classmates, wives, widows, and friends thought enough of the idea to put up the funds, and the presentation was made then and there.

In Curly's words, "The appeal of this project exceeded our expectations and the dollars kept rolling in." The Fund has now reached the amazing total of $301,883.88, is an integral part of the Dartmouth College endowment, and provides for six scholarships. The goal of the bequest committee is to achieve a total of $400,000 by the time of our 65th Reunion, providing for two '28 scholars in each undergraduate class.

So far, nine scholarships have been awarded and a tenth is in process. Three of the scholars are grandchildren of classmates. All have distinguished themselves academically and in extracurricular activities including athletics. Due to strict limits on space for Class Notes, Art Kneerim will be asked to include brief biographies of '28 class scholars in a forthcoming Campaigner.

Maybe one reunion a year is enough. Anyway due to cancellations by many for illness and other good reasons the September 17 mini had to be called off. We were well represented at the Penn game, however. Herb Sensenig, Curly Prosser,Ed and Dora Flanders, Joe and MargTidd, and Rog Sundeen showed up, held a committee meeting, declared a mini-mini, and voted in favor of holding a banquet at the Sensenigs after the game. (Herb's vote is unrecorded.) Mimi, informed by telephone, undaunted, provided a splendid meal. So, the class record for good times at the fall get-together remains unbroken.
