Eight months ago a major event in our history occurred almost unnoticed. We've just learned that on April 12 Cleveland's University School honored Lee A. Chilcote with its 1988 Graduate Alumni Award "in recognition of outstanding service to his country and community." The lengthy citation covered not only his record at this prestigious prep school but also his Dartmouth record and subsequent work and accomplishments on behalf of Dartmouth, for which he had been awarded the Wentworth Bowl.

There's much more, but I want to use my limited space to add that Lee has just had two (I think) carotid operations, joining such distinguished retreads as Mclnnes,Dalglish, and Raube. On September 30 he wrote Liela that he is getting along just fine and is back at the office.

Back to Bob McClory, for whom the tributes are unending, Wayne Van Leer reports that Ellie French, Ted Wolf, JackSmith, and Merrill Hayes were among the out-of-town admirers attending the memorial service.

Sigourney Weaver is in the news again, as a cover girl on the September 25 Parade and October Life. For Life she authored the cover story herself. The Parade interview included a photo of Pat and Liz Weaver. In case you hadn't noticed(!), Sigourey's "Gorillas in the Mist" came out in September. She's received high grades in this almost-true story about Dian Fossey, the "gorilla woman," who was murdered in Rwanda in 1985. Critics generally liked the show as long as it stayed with the gorillas but found the superimposed love story a digression.

Finally, a word from the wonderful world of medicine: Drs. Placak, Christman, Latham, Rix, Hight, Lord, Putman, and Sander contributed again to the DMS Alumni Fund.

Adie Raab retired in 1982 following an aortic valve replacement, which was successful. He and Edith flee New York for a month each winter in a warmer climate, most recently Puerto Rico. Otherwise his days are filled with reading, children, grandchildren, and an occasional visit to family in Montreal.

The fall DMS Alumni Magazine, lacking our DAM 300-word limit, carried an excellent obituary on Joe Placak. I'll provide copies on request.

Holiday greetings to y'all.
