In 1986 "A Day in the Life of America" was published and soon became a coffee-table favorite. A collection of photos taken by 200 photographers across the nation on a single day, the book was a rich and often provocative depiction of the diverse elements of America.

Now, in preparation for its 10th Reunion, the class of '80 plans a variation on the same theme, the production of a slide show entitled "A Day in the Life of an '80." Spearheading the effort are classmates Rich von Riesen and Curtis Chase. Rich cites considerable expertise on the subject of reunions he attends them at his elementaiy school, high Dartmouth, and his grad school. But he believes the central theme of "A Day in the Life of America," diversity and richness-is often lost at reunions. "Returning to the old haunts and assuming our former roles can be invigorating," says Rich. "But the part I enjoy most is learning about the different directions we've all chosen since graduation. Despite the fact that we shared reasonably similar years as students, we have chosen many different paths. Often we don t get to the point of sharing this rich variety with each other until the last minutes of the reunion. Curtis and I hope that this slide production will encourage us to get to it sooner.'

As a result, every Dartmouth '80 will be asked to pull out a camera during the first week of June 1989, and take photos of their lives their families, homes, vocations, avocations.

"We're aiming for at least 200 participants representing all 50 states, notes Curtis. "By June of 1990 we'll have put together a show that certainly ought to enhance the reunion."
