This summer Russ Blackwood is participating in the Summer Institute on Nagarjuna and Buddhism at the University of Hawaii. The program is to provide specialized training in the philosophy of Nagarjuna, as well as broader understanding of Buddhist thought. A professor of philosophy at Hamilton College, after leaving Dartmouth Russ received his A.M. and Ph.D. at Colgate and Columbia. Sounds like a super summer.
Summertime Bob Rook can be found on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire, and having spent many years in this area he knows the territory well.
There's a delightful small hotel called Mills Falls in Meredith, N.H. It is open both winter and summer and has a winter package of meals and lodging but the most interesting fact about the location is a gallery called Tracy-Leighton run by Carll Tracy's wife and daughter. So if in the area stop in and see if you can find Carll.
The fall in Hanover is as beautiful as ever and a trip to a game or the annual mini-reunion is rewarding, with fall colors and good comradeship of those who return at this time of year. Each year we are all indebted to Ken McClain and Bill Cribbens for the liquid refreshments at the mini.
In case you haven't heard, our own RayTruncellito was voted Manchester's Man of the Year and he continues to serve his many insurance clients well.
Al and Joyce Wagner are planning a trip this fall to Italy. One wonders whether beer and pizza will taste the same there. In the small-world department, my nextdoor neighbor at Lake Winnipesaukee is Bob Thomson (of PBS's Victory Garden) and his wife works for Jim Zafiris, president of a Danvers savings bank.
Talked with Ernie Beattie and found out that he and Elaine are living in Sandwich, N.H., in the winter and are on Lake Winnisquam in the summer. His oldest son is in Texas, another in Massachusetts, and one in New' York State. His only daughter is about to make them grandparents this year.
As our thoughts turn to colder weather some of you may become snow birds. Leigh and I will return to the Meadows in Sarasota and were delighted to know some of our classmates will be in the area. Tom Towler is one of the better-known residents of Siesta Key. Spud Parsons is in the Orlando area, and Johnny Adler in Sarasota. A little further down the west coast in Naples you will find Jack Kilmartin. How about letting me know where you will be when you go South this year so I can pass the word. My sailing partner Pete Lord and wife Ann have rented a condo on the island of St. Maarten to see what it would be like to live on such an island in the winter.
Had a good talk with Peter "Mike"Gish, who is still involved in the artist's trade at his studio in Westport, Conn. Found out that our respective fathers were both Dartmouth 'l5s.
Please write me news of your doings so that we together can make this an interesting column. Thanks.
