Greetings. I'll start with news from western Massachusetts. Buddy Martin, former Dartmouth varsity basketball player, is now the chief administrator for the state trial courts in the Springfield area. Buddy's fraternity brother and fellow ball player, Doug Bates, has now set up his own consulting business on the north shore of Boston. Congratulations to you both!
Phil Maloney and Sue and their brood are happily ensconced in the North Conway, N.H., area where Phil is a partner in an orthopedic practice. Phil's old roommate, Russ Kelley, has recently joined a radiology practice on the south shore of Boston. Russ and Pat and their four children now live in Norwell. Come to think of it, they must not be too far from Digger Donahue, who is now a senior officer with Brown Brothers, Harriman in Boston. You'll be glad to know that Digger still swings a mean squash racket.
Speaking of rackets, while Pete Smith has turned his energies to marathons (he has competed in several New York marathons), his tennis is still strong. Several years ago he and his partner won the Florida State Doubles Tournament. Pete is now a senior executive with a Florida-based oil and real estate development company. He and Martha and their two children live in the Jacksonville area.
Kudos of a different kind are due to CraigColberg, who has given up a high-powered brokerage job with Goldman, Sachs to do social work in South Africa. While all of us who know Craig are not surprised by his compassionate and selfless career decision, by doing so he has made a personal statement which we can all respect.
A special word of thanks to a classmate, who gets a standing ovation from me and all who know him for his commitment to the College and our class. Bob Barr has single-handedly rejuvenated the class newsletter, is spearheading the upcoming reunion (along with Brad Little), and is also on the ballot committee for the Trustee election. Bob, many thanks for all of your contributions.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the Reunion in June. Brad Little asked me to remind everyone about the 50 percent discounted fares available through Continental Airlines as described further in the Reunion mailing. See you there.
