For the last two months I have been traveling on a mission to seek out '86s residing in the far reaches of the world, places even beyond the reach of Dartmouth fundraisers. Surely there must be an '86 who has become a tattoo artist in Bangkok or gone incognito in the opium dens of Nepal. But after two months of relentless snooping I began to despair. Where were all the green sweatshirts? Was "around the girdled earth they roam" a bunch of baloney? What would I write about in the next Class Notes?
Fortunately with the article deadline imminent I encountered an '86 who had parted with the amber waves of grain for a few months of travel in Southeast Asia. Hallelujah!! Now I wouldn't have to continue stories about Jill Whitcomb becoming a stunt person. Seated under a palm tree beside a Thai beach (yes, life has been good recently), Geoff Parker and I gossiped about people like you. Here's what I heard:
After some mild threats ("What was that I heard about you opening a massage parlor?") I persuaded Geoff to provide some self-inflicted gossip. Next May he will marry Jill Gofen, a classmate of his from Stanford Business School. Perhaps the honeymoon will include a romantic stop in Hanover for the social event of the season, our fifth-year reunion (this is still on the bargaining table). They will settle in N.Y.C., where he will work for Goldman Sachs, she for American Express (class fundraising agents take note). While at Stanford Geoff was captain of the rugby team. Bodybuilding fans will be glad to know that he still has the granite of New Hampshire in his muscles and his veins (or was it brains?)
Kevin Sankey has also been punishing his body on the rugby field, but he has been wearing the colors of a rival business school. He was captain of the Kellogg team at Northwestern.
Writing the last few paragraphs has consumed far more brain waves than my beachbum body has produced in weeks. So as not to overload my weakened neurons, I will switch to express writing mode.
Several other 'B6s recently received diplomas from Stanford Business School. Ellen Stein will work for Hewlett Packard in Boston, Sue McCormack will rejoin Merrill Lynch in L.A., and Beau Brown will work for California Casualty in S.F. Jack Fuchs, Erin Ryan, and Mark Sachleban recently completed the first year of the Stanford program. Erin will marry Teddy Conway, who is with Shearson in S.F.
Greg Fishbein graduated from Wharton. He will move to D.C. where he will do Eublic senior consulting with Price Waterouse. Mike McTernan is working for Goldman Sachs in London. Allison Linneman graduated from BU law school. She will soon take the New York bar exam. Pat Donovan graduated from BC law and will take the Massachusetts bar exam. I scribbled a memory jogger about Stephanie Semprevivo, but I can't jog my brain from its catatonic state. All I can tell you is that she designs, makes, or sells women's suits in N.Y.C. Patti Hannon has been healing the sick in Alaska (lots of colds and frostbite cases?), where she was on a rotation from medical school. Soon she will go to Johns Hopkins to begin residency in pediatrics.
Raleigh Floyd was engaged to get married in September. Scott Truitt was married last Memorial Day weekend. A.J. Conley writes and publishes an oil and gas journal in N.Y.C. Rob Thomson will be taking a one-year sabbatical from Rush Medical School to do research at Tulane.
Bill Marozas wants to know where Chip Fleischer is. Is he a fugitive of the law?
Sorry about any misspelled names. I for got to pack my freshman book. Don't leave ome without it!!
