You may not have noticed, but Class Notes were missing from the October issue of this magazine. This is because your secretary was headed for a hospital instead of his type-writer at the time copy was due. He survived five weeks of having penicillin poured into him in pursuit of an elusive streptococcus that attacks the heart valves. They call it bacterial endocarditis. Whoever heard of that before? Anyway, avoid it. It's rough.

Ed Flanders is annoyed. He didn't break any records this year. Although he squeezed $80,319.12 out of 173 of us, which was 94.5 percent of our objective, it was no record. In the seven years he has been our head agent his performance has been superb. He deserves a pat on the back or free lodging at the hospital of his choice should he ever come down with bacterial endocarditis.

A note from Red Sanborn mentions that he had just returned from a trip to Hanover visiting his grandchildren Eagle Glassheim '92, a class scholar who has been mentioned previously in these notes, and Pamela Lombard '90, who was helping to rebuild Great Bear Cabin for the Outing Club. They obviously are following in granddad's footsteps. Red must have been our leading outdoorsman, as he was president of the Canoe Club, vice president of the Outing Club, and a member of the ski team. His interest in the out-of-doors is now directed towards conservation. He is a member of every conservation club or society you ever heard of and is on the board of directors of the Maine Audubon Society, the Maine chapter of the Nature Conservancy, and the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. Also, he is still enjoying the hazards of skiing.

We also regret to report the death of Dick Foote from cancer on July 2.
