As 1990 moves rapidly through its second week, Christmas messages from classmates provide news for the first notes of 1990. As a suggestion, of your leftover cards mail one to the secretary in Westford with reports on your activities for 1989.

Geoff and Edie Maclay have moved from a house to a condominum in Milwaukee but have a home on Nantucket which is well used during the seasons. They are now grandparents of six.

From Freeport, Maine, John and Molly White report on a busy year of travel including an August family trip in England and then they were in Colorado in October. They are looking forward to escapes to Florida, particularly from the frigid weather of December in New England, but look forward to skiing in between.

An article on Floyd Farrant in a recent Dartmouth Medical School Alumni Magazine (thanks to Don Cole) reports on an interesting and courageous life. He left the College in 1943 to become a navy pilot and after the war returned to Hanover to finish college, medical school, and eventually to begin an ophthalmology practice. As a sidelight to his medical work he climbed mountains, skied most of the slopes in the East and deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics. In 1978 a serious stroke left him paralyzed on his right side and imposed other physical restrictions but after strenuous and determined rehabilitation he learned to paint with his left hand and has graduated from water colors to oils to acrylics. Now he is skiing, climbing lesser hills and mountains, and hopes to return to high altitude mountain climbing. He is a true profile in courage and we wish him farther progress as well as his appearance in Hanover.

Number one correspondent Frank Aidrich provides the following information about his own family and about John Ahem. Marion (daughter) received dual graduate degrees from Tulane while Clinton (son), a helicopter pilot, became an agent of DEA just before Christmas. John Ahern left Dartmouth after one year and classifies four schools as alma mater. He is retired except for managing some real estate which has to be kept until capital gains taxes are eased. His year consists of time in Excelsior, Minn, (home), Delray Beach, Fla., plus skiing in Colorado and Idaho, and cruises on various vessels, fry Hanover for a mini-reunion or the June 1991 45th, John. We guarantee you will like it.

A letter from Bob Waterman '5O advises of the death of his brother, Dinny Waterman, in October after a three-year battle with cancer. He was a very active lawyer and civic leader in Davenport, lowa, and we extend personal and class sympathies to Sybil and his children.

As spring approaches remember the Alumni Fund. For some reason 1945 did not measure up in 1989 and hopefolly in this the 45th year of our intended graduation we will do our part, particularly in participation.
