Greetings from Atlanta! I have news this month from far and wide. From Singapore comes a baby announcement. Christina Clayton Pfaff was born September 22 to Paula McLeod and Jamie Pfaff. The hospital staff and their Singapore friends were amazed by Christina's size of 9 lbs. 1 oz. Paula invites '78s traveling through Singapore to contact her through her employer, Lever Brothers. Tom Swartwood sent news of his new daughter, Kaitlin, born July 6. He also reported that he and a group of investors recently purchased a weekly newspaper in Pennsylvania and he is the new CEO. Tom had received baby greetings from Mark Frank and his wife, Karen, from Boulder, Colo.

I also received baby news from Brooks Clark, who recently moved to Knoxville, Tenn. Brooks's wife, Karen, gave birth to their second daughter, Olivia, on October 30. Brooks is senior editor of Sourcebook, a magazine published by Whittle Communications that gives management advice to information professionals. He enclosed a sample copy of the magazine, which includes a feature on Ty Hilkert. The article describes how to make wise career moves and highlights how Ty chose his current job as a senior systems analyst for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Alexandria, Va.

The College sent along several useful pieces of news. Cynthia Tolbert has joined the family practice department of Keene Clinic North in Walpole, N.H. She recently completed a three-year family practice residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Bill Petit has entered private practice in internal medicine in Plainville, Conn. Previously, Bill was a professor at the Yale School of Medicine, doing research on diabetes. Steve Yarinski has joined the staff of Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., as a plastic surgeon. The newspaper reports that Steve and his wife, Karen, have two sons. Dan Reicher was pictured in The New York Times in a recent article about how left-of-center groups are working with some conservative groups proposing cuts in defense spending now that peace is breaking out. Dan is a lawyer for the left-of-center National Resources Defense Council in Washington. Steve Maynard was featured in a panoramic shot in the annual report of LAC Minerals, Ltd. The report explained how skilled exploration geologists like Steve are a key to LAC's success.

The College also sent news of John Reeder, who joined Whipple & Associates in April. Whipple is a financial planning and employees benefits firm, and John will be working in the Princeton, N.J., area. Ben Crocker's May wedding was reported in the Boston Globe. Ben and his new wife, Susan Staznik, are living in Framingham, Mass., where Ben is a senior software engineer with Prime Computer.

I called Duane Peterson one day to get some information on a questionable company I was trying to deal with, which I suspected had previously been breaking laws in its California operation. While Duane did not have any dirt on my suspects, he did have some news. He is getting married this year to Laura Rush, a local television journalist. He is enjoying his work as press secretary to the attorney general. Since his boss is running for governor of California this year, work is busy, and will get busier.

I tried a new news gathering tactic at the end of the year. I sent cards to ten classmates with holiday greetings and a plea for news. I even included preaddressed, prepaid postcards. Of the ten, only Andy Hallberg has been inclined to reply after three weeks, and Andy took pity on me because we were in school together in fourth grade. Andy and his wife, Amy, are living in Westerly, R.I., with their two children, Gray and Sarah. Andy is in solo private practice in orthopedics, which keeps him very busy.
