As I write today, I'm in an autumnal mood: for all their melancholy, I still think that "September Song" is one of my favorites, as is Shakespeare's sonnet "That Time of Year." Would I feel the same, I wonder, were I to live in the Sun Belt? What beauty can begin to compare to fall in New England? And what better time to enjoy it than our Dartmouth Night mini-reunion, October 12-14?
Hank Sanders's nominating committee is holding meetings to fashion a slate of class officers, functionaries, and executive committee members to take over, as of June 1991, a variety of duties beneficial to our class. Here is a list of those positions: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, newsletter editor, Alumni Fund head agent, widows' chairwoman, mini-reunion chairman, Alumni Council representative (threeyear term), bequest chairman, and 12 members-at-large of the executive committee. Except for the Alumni Council representative, each will serve a five-year term until the next reunion in 1996. The position of vice president, new to our class organization, is deemed a prudent addition at this time.
Our class has been well served by many of us in the past, with 15-18 of the executive committee commonly in attendance at our meetings. If you, or a classmate you know, would like to get involved in this vital ongoing experience, please contact any of the following members of Hank's committee: Pete Bixby, 39 Park Lane, Madison, NJ 07940 (201/377-5133); Al Brout, Park Hill Lane, Larchmont, NY 10538 (914/834-1049); Fred Brown, 143-B Providence Way, Jamesburg, NJ 08831 (609/395-6925); Russ Dilks, 91 Fairfax Court, Madison, NJ 07940 (201/377-7797); DickHulbert, Kirby Lane, Rye, NY 10580 (914/967-6497); Dave Krivitsky, 220 East 72nd Street, New York, NY 10021 (212/794-2002); Hank Sanders, 57 Deepwood Road, Darien, CT 06820 (203/655-8884). (Note: though the above are all from the Northeast, no such limitation need apply to potential nominees interest in serving the class is the main criterion.)
Bennett Bidwell, who joined Chrysler from Hertz in 1983 as executive vice president for sales, marketing, and public relations, has announced that he will be retiring at the first of next year. During his tenure at Chrysler, Bennett has served in a number of capacities.
After 32 years of secondary-school teaching, we imagine that George Southwick could use a rest, but he reports from Boca Raton that the secret to successful retirement is finding meaningful alternatives to the vocation one has left. We hope to hear more from George to get some details of his activities there in Florida.
A correction: I misreported, in an obituary, Pete Krehbiel's fraternity affiliation. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta.
Take care, be good to yourselves, and keep in touch.
