Not having heard much about the winners of the class of 1936 Women's Award in past years, I was curious to find out more about this year's winner, Nicole Celeste Hager. I contacted "our man near Hanover," Paul Guibord, who filed the following report.
"The award is given 'to that woman in the senior class who has contributed most significantly to the college through her depth of integrity and character, capacity for leadership, academic achievement and commitment to the life of the community.'
"Nicole hails from the State of Washington, and plans to pursue a career in educational administration. In addition to being a marshall of her class, Nicole was the recipient of three other awards: The Kenneth Archibald Athletic Prize, 'awarded to that senior completing four years in attendance as the best allaround athlete, regard also being given to recognized moral worth and a high standing in scholarship;' The Agues B. Kurtz Award, 'to that woman who best combines proficiency in athletics with dedication to the furthering of women's sports;' and The Larry Leavitt Women's Basketball Award, 'to that member of the women's basketball team who exemplifies the Dartmouth spirit of good sportsmanship, camaraderie, enthusiasm, and interest.'"
Thank you, Paul, for all the information. Nicole sounds like the kind of young woman we really need in the field of education these days. Congratulations, Nicole!
Pete Fitzherbert recently came up with an interesting statistic. He believes that, including himself, there are only seven '36ers who have attended every one of our official reunions from the 5th to the 55th. The other six are Ray Builter, Harry Coronis, AlGibney, Ed Higbee, Dick Stowell, and RossWoodbridge. If anyone else should be in cluded in this select group let us hear from
I saw Jean and Tom Parker in August when they stopped in Yarmouth briefly on their way to L.L. Bean. They both looked great, and I believe they were doing some last-minute shopping for the Great Greek Get-Away. That trip, with Harry Coronis as guide, will have been completed by the time you read this.
Mim and BUI Macurda are probably comfortably settled in Kendal at Hanover by this time. From now on Bill should have no trouble keeping in touch with whatever is going on at the College. As our new president he will be presiding over the executive committee meeting in Hanover on October 12 and, of course, joining in the other festivities of that weekend, including the football game with Holy Cross. We hope these mini-reunions will continue to attract a large number of loyal '36ers, and look forward to seeing many of you in Hanover. In the meantime, keep in touch.
