S. Furber Haight visited Dartmouth for his 92nd birthday on October 13 and watched the football team beat Yale. The night before he enjoyed the fine Homecoming Parade as he rode with Ort Hicks in the class of 1921 car.
Vic Welch stopped for lunch at the Hanover Inn on his way home to Wilton, Conn., from a visit of a few days in Maine. Although a Penn graduate, he still has a real affection for Dartmouth.
Hazen Jones graduated from Dartmouth in 1910. He was born May 11, 1887, and died November 4, 1990, making a lifetime span of 103 years and 177 days. I became acquainted with Hazen when he was president of the onceprosperous Dartmouth Club of Melrose. He was a U.S. Army veteran in World War I and then was employed by the Shattuck Company in Boston. He was retired as a vice-president in 1970. Some years later I happened to sit beside him and asked about his retirement. I recall his saying that he found that he could make a small job last a long time.
I was proud to attend a memorial service with nearly 40 of his friends and relatives.
