What a way to wind up 1936 participation in 1990: some threescore-plus classmates, widows, and associates gathered in Hanover October 26-27. The seams of the DOC House bulged under the strain of our Class Awards dinner Friday night (the D.D.A. put on a really sumptuous buffet). We all cheered Joseph S. Cunningham while he accepted the Paul Revere Bowl and accolades for his exceptional successes in business, community, and College-related affairs.

Almost the same number continued the celebration Saturday evening at Pierce's Inn in Etna munching on Chateaubriand, inhaling the house-famous Mud Pie, drinking toast upon toast to the Big Green's football victory over Harvard, and then clustering around the piano until Paul Lynch's fingers and the crowd's vocal cords gave out.

A full Executive Committee Meeting Saturday a.m. also hosted a large number of wives and guests who were impressed by the report by Joe Cunningham and his group on the plans for our 55th nextjune. The crowd then moved to Memorial Field for the Harvard game which was played in almost shirt-sleeve weather. Seen in the stands in the '36 section were FredGonnerman, Don Erion, Tom Monagan and Aldis Butler. The fall list of the weekend participants has been recorded in a recent issue of Tithe. Next fall's gathering is scheduled for the Leaf-Lookers' Weekend, October 12-13, 1991 (the Holy Cross game).

But before all that we have our 55th. Five years ago some 50 classmates won the table centerpieces—a picea glauca conica (dwarf alberta spruce to most folk) with the admonition to plant, feed, and nurture, so that each could be brought back for the 55th or 60th. "No way," says Dave Fox, who carried his tree from New Jersey to Washington State. Shipping costs would jeopardize his Reunion Fund gift.

So forget the tree, but plan to be in Hanover June 10-12.

You all have received much advance publicity on Joe's plans for the occasion, and soon you will receive the Advance Registration forms. The Committee is aiming for an attendance goal of at least 200. Preliminary replies indicate about 150 for sure, some 60 on the fence with the group of "no's" confined principally to geographically-distant brethren. As we move along into 1991 you will be kept up-to-date via this column, Tithe, and the 55th Committee mailings—but of utmost importance, just plan to come.

'36 has never been a sedentary body, and for the truly resdess a small group is working with Harry Coronis on a two-week trip to historic Greece and the Islands in September. If interested, drop me a note and I'll arrange for you to get details.

Next month, the answer to the bridge problem which appeared in my November Column.

What a way to start off 1991!
