One gallon of rum weighs 16 pounds; therefore 500 gallons weighs 8,000 pounds. In 1769 how did Eleazer Wheelock transport 500 gallons of New England rum from Medford, Mass., to Hanover?
Looking back I recall how in August 1913 my Uncle Charlie and I climbed the Glencliff trail up Mount Moosilauke and stayed at the hotel operating at the top. Dartmouth President Nichols was also there for the night.
In September 1917 I was assigned to Room 55 on the fourth floor of Wheeler Hall. During Delta Alpha Week we freshmen had to kneel and recite a plea ending "Wah Hoo Wah for 1920. To Hell with '21.'"
"Eliza Crossing the Ice" was enjoyed by the sophomores in the hall of our fourth floor. Freshmen on their hands and knees and facing in opposite directions swayed back and forth as Eliza with a pail of water tried to walk on the ice cakes without spilling her pail of water. Just good clean fun.
