For some reason, I seem always to wait until the last minute to write this column, which means I am always rushed. That is not a great problem, however, since I receive so little mail from all of you and do not have to collate very much.

Eugene Grayson has been promoted to vice president in the life, health and financial services department at the Travelers Companies. It seems to me that I wrote about Gene not too long ago, which means I either have just repeated myself or he's taking the corporate ladder several rungs at a time.

Bill Yellowtail was chosen Angler of the Year by Fly Rod and Reel magazine which had a feature article on him in its January/ February issue. Bill continues to work his ranch, act as guide on the Bighorn River, and legislate with the best of them in the Montana Statehouse. There is some talk about Bill running for the U.S. Senate or governor, but he would rather go fishing.

John Burton is president of the Nantahala Outdoor Center in BrysoN City, N.C. nOC is a white-water rafting outfit founded in 1972. John joined in 1975 and became president in 1985. The river crashes down through the NantahalA Gorge and draws tens of thousand to its banks each year. The founder, payson Kennedy, is the visionary, and John is the one who turns those dreams into reality. John is a natural to have combined business with white water. He earned his M.B.A. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in 1972 was a member of the U.S. Olympic Canoe team.

Take care and write!
