Twenty-one classmates have signed up with Denny Goodman as definitely planning to attend our 55 th Birthday bash in Washington the weekend of April 30. Twenty-three others have said they are interested. Walt Freedman has booked 75 rooms (at a special rate) at the deluxe Park Hyatt hotel for the weekend, and there is still plenty of room. Denny's tentative plan is for an informal restaurant dinner Friday night and gathering at the hotel afterward, a Saturday morning cultural event such as a tour of the National Gallery of Art, a lunchtime cruise on the Potomac, a non-black-tie dinner Saturday night with dancing, and a buffet breakfast Sunday morning. Plans are still in formation, so if you have suggestions, he's open to them. Call him at (301) 320-2246. The definite signups are Jim Adler, John Appleford, PaulCantor, Mai Churchill, Hap Dunning,Wayne Givens, Allan Glick, Murrayjanus,Neil Koreman, Gene Kohn, Marty Lower,Bob Luce, John Passegio, Jon Richardson,Rick Roesch, Dave Sloper, Dudley Smith, and Al Stowe, plus Denny, Walt, and me. FYI: Washington is at its most dazzling at the end of April. The azaleas and tulips are out and the steam has not yet begun to rise from the ground. Also, it should be a politically interesting time, with (as it looks in October) a new Democratic administration in charge.
On a September visit to Washington, TomHuyck reported that he's been helping his friend and former neighbor Carol Mosley Braun become the first black woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate. A former assistant U.S. attorney with Ms. Braun, Tom is a lawyer in Chicago whose practice is about one-third criminal defense work in white-collar cases. He is also financial development chairman of the Chicago Children's Choir.
