Dartmouth Night has come and gone. One of the most important items on the class meeting agenda was the upcoming 40th Reunion, with everyone contributing ideas to ensure that we will enjoy record-setting attendance June 13-16, 1994. Plan to be there. In that regard, Dick Barker, chairman of the nominating committee, is eager to receive nominations for class officers to lead us through the five-year period ending just before the turn of the century. Self-nominations are encouraged. Contact Dick, Dave Mandelbaum, Steve Mullins, or DickPage.
I was minding my own business early in August when Ed Scott called from Vancouver, B.C., to reminisce about Fort Holabird and life in the Counter Intelligence Corps branch of the U.S. Army. Much of what occurred in Baltimore while several of us were stationed there is still not suitable for publication, regardless of the Freedom of Information Act. Ed doubts that he will get to the 40th, but he hopes to continue to thrive and prosper and endure until the 50th.
Ralph Destino is having all the fun, as usual. Ralph is, of course, chairman of Cartier Inc. and an old friend of Reggie Jackson. Reggie just entered the Baseball Hall of Fame and had his number 44 retired by the New York Yankees, so Ralph is hosting a celebration at Cartier on Fifth Avenue. This is the first time that Cartier has honored an athlete—there will be a store window decorated in Reggie's honor and a ball-park lunch of hot dogs and soda served by waiters in Yankee pin-stripe jerseys and caps.
I do not claim to have been at Coogan's Bluff in 1951 when Bobbie Thomson won the pennant for the New York Giants, but I was at Yankee Stadium for the sixth game in the 1977 World Series when Reggie hit three home runs on three consecutive pitches I have the ticket stub to prove it!
And now, my periodic appeal for news. A couple of years ago I wrote to a bunch of classmates and received some replies. Now I am personally addressing this request to those who did not respond. Let's hear from the following, please: Bill Blacksher, Bill Cohn, MortGalper, Ted Gasteyer, Dean Hildebrandt,Bill Pryor, Gary Rosenthal, Bill Walls, and Al Woddell.
