Bill Purcell has switched teams. A partner at the prestigious Lord Day & Lord, Barrett Smith law firm in New York since 1988, he’s accepted an offer to be a partner at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in New York, where he’ll specialize in white-collar crime, breach of contract, securities, commodities, and professional liability. At Columbia Bill was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and editor of the Columbia Journal of Law & Social Problems. He clerked forjudge Harold R. Tyler and was an assistant D.A. before joining Barret Smith Schapiro Simon & Arm- strong in 1975.
Where is Rich Braddock headed? The former number-two man at Citicorp announced his resignation as chief executive officer of Medco Containment Services, the $ 1.8-billion drug-distribution company in Montvale, NJ. Rumor has it Rick was edged out for the number-one spot at Eastman Kodak by George M.C. Fisher of Motorola. Medco is expected to be acquired by Merck & Cos., a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. That would mean less latitude for Rick, accord- ing to the Wall Street Journal.
Another man to watch is Launny Steffens, Class of 63 Soaring Pine winner and head of brokerage worldwide for Merrill Lynch & Cos. Forbes magazine says he is one of five on the short list to suceed chairman Daniel P. Tully when he retires in four years.
An unsung hero of the recent successful 30 th Reunion is Bob Bysshe, who took time out from his busy work at Bankers Trust to serve as treasurer of the class event. Keeping track of checks, paying bills, directing cash flow is no easy matter when you’re running a reunion for 200 people, but Bob was up to the task. At Bankers Trust Bob is vice president and relationship manager for 401 Kpension plans. Bob and Beth live in Granite Springs, N.Y., near the border of Putnam County. Sons Geoff and Tom have followed Bob into the financial industry. Geoff is a Wall Street money manager; Tom is with a Brazilian bank in New York. Peter just graduated from Bates, and Karen is a ’96 at Dartmouth.
Bob reports that Ted Suess is recently recovered from a ruptured appendix. Ted, an assistant tresurer with Rohm and Haas, Philadelphia-based chemical company, lives in Drexel Hills, Pa., with wife Anne and chil- dren Ted, Kristin, and Jill.
“An exciting mission” is how Rev. Bob Bunnell of the Ogden Memorial Presbyter- ian Church, Chatham, N.J., near Newark, describes his ministry. The church offers “a lot of outreach,” reports Bob, including home- less shelters and inner-city tutoring. The rest of the Bunnells are busy as well. Wife Judith, already with an M.A. in public administration, is now going for a master’s in social work to work with the elderly. Son Stephen is a bio- chemistry doctoral candidate at Harvard; John studies engineering at Clarkson.
Nearby New Jerseyite (Montclair) RonSchecter reports that he’s playing the cello in recitals and practicing law parttime. He per- forms with a guitarist doing arrangements of songs from Brazil, Russia, Hungary, and Aus- tria. Peggy, a flutist, is co-artistic director of the New Jersey Chamber Music Society.
