Bill Bumstead submits an item for the "Isn't it a small world" department: on a trip to Napa Valley he ran into Rick Collins, whom he had not seen for 55 years. Rick came to Dartmouth from La Jolla High School and roomed in Topliff but did not graduate with us. Scotty Treeman and Patricia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. They both enjoy lots of golf at Vero Beach in the winter and in Kalona, lowa, near their daughter's form, in the summer.
People are on the move. The MacMillens have moved from their large farmhouse in Lyme to an apartment in Hanover. When not there, you might find them on one of their island retreats in Maine or Georgia. The Austins sold part of their Webster, N.H., property and bought a condo in Concord, N.H. Bob Tatgenhorst has moved permanently from Cincinnati to the Covington, Ky., area and thinks he is the only '4O near there.
The Cockleys had a delightful three weeks in Austria. The Davenports were off to Spain and Morocco, but their house in Vermont was being occupied by the California Wentworths. A recent dinner in Cleveland qualifies as an official mini-reunion since there were the minimum of five couples present: Rogers, Goulder, Bruch, Moore, and Huffman. Everett and Elizabeth Czerny stopped in Rancho Sante Fe recently and took Ty Cobb's wife, Rhoda, out to lunch. None of the other locals were free at the time (not even Ty). Sam and Lorraine Williams came by Cape Cod after attending a wedding in Long Island. A highlight of the Cape Cod adventure was catching Bob Dibble right in the middle of his annual commercial applecider pressing. Back in Hanover, Sam was in time to see the Yale-Dartmouth freshman football game, where John Manley was performing his usual job as honorary coach and chief cheerleader. Sam is now back at Vero Beach.
Joe Rinehart sent us an update on Hurricane Andrew, which passed right through his community of Homestead, Fla. Joe was lucky to be away in Ohio at the time. Fortunately there was no structural damage to his house, but there was much exterior damage to windows, porch, all the landscaping, etc., and big problems resulted from water intrusion. It will take at least six months before he can move back from his temporary quarters at Islamorada on the Keys. Joe has seen DickFunkhouser, whose residence on Key Largo suffered only moderate damage.
In addition to their generosity to Dartmouth, we note with pride that Bob andVirginia Weil made the largest individual contribution to the recent annual fund at Wheaton College, Ginny's alma mater.
