You won't read this until February 1993, so if what I write is old hat by then you can write your Congressman. But not Frank Guarini. As previously reported, Frank stepped down at the end of the year. He represented New Jersey in the House of Representatives for many years and very well. Once more, congratulations, Frank.
From Hanover comes news of the upcoming 50th-anniversary reunion of the Dartmouth V-12 Navy/Marine Program in Hanover July 16-18, 1993. All members should have received a notice by now. Our representatives on the committee are Walt Snickenberger (603) 448-5371, and Reg Pierce (603) 643-2997. If you did not get notice call either one. Reg is trying to coax Earle Angstadt to join the '46 committee.
Tom Adams, our head class agent, received the Fred A. Howland 1887 Award as Outstanding Head Agent, 41-60 years out. Under Tom's great leadership 1946 raised $1,601,933 and had 57-percent participation. Thank you, Tom Adams. Our class led our group (years 1943 through 1948) in total giving. All this was in the October Alumni Magazine, but I suspect that most of you race with breathless anticipation to my 1946 column and then become so exhilarated that you are unable to read the remainder of the magazine.
John Condit read in the October issue that Art Young's son was a banker in Zurich, Switzerland. John asked me to tell Art that John's daughter Katherine was playing the lead in a production of Cats now showing there. John is still holding forth from Evanston, Ill. from whence he cometh, as I recall. Oh, I don't recall. Looked it up in the Green Book.
I wrote earlier about Stan Waterman. Now the College sends me an announcement about his TV series which was last July! Thanks a lot! The brochure states, "The man who loves sharks. A profile of Stan Waterman, a man whose extraordinary aquatic adventures have made him the most esteemed voice in diving today and one of the world's finest underwater cinematographers." And to think we knew him when. How many remember that he was a champion cross-country runner?
Spoke to Dick Scharrer out in Dayton Ohio. He's still working the law business every day. Says he sees Gus Gillaugh frequently. I spoke to Gus too. He was just back from a jaunt to England, Wales, and Ireland. Gus is now retired from New England Life but still does some health-insurance work. He is no longer a five handicap in golf if he ever was. He heard from Dick Pringle in Tulsa, Okla. Dick had been to Palm Springs and turned in a fancy 69 at El Dorado. These golf scores seem to be getting lower with age. I should point out that Dick was the ace of our golf team in college. But a 69? Dick is now retired from his oil business.
Sadly, I must report the passing of Frederick S. Eadie on August 20. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
