Does anyone remember Valentine's boxes? Decorated with red wrapping paper, foil, scraps of lace, buttons, yarn, comic strips, or even the subversive Wacky Packs (such as " lop Slob" and "Uncle Ben's Perverted Rice"), each former shoebox sported a slot into which every classmate delivered a Valentine's card. It was an amazingly peaceable, equitable celebration for a bunch of otherwise back-stabbing grade-schoolers.

I can trace my cravings for personal mail to those Valentine's Days of my youth: anticipation, familiar but unplaceable penmanship, desperate hope that the contents might yield more than an indifferent "Jay M." Apparently, though, those individuals who've stocked my mailbox of late no longer have a need for secret admirers, as you'll see from this amor-full column.

Nancy Bernard Felix married Mark Felix, apparently the sole non-Dartmouth man at that wedding, June. Unable to submit the snapshot for publication, I shall recreate it for you: flanking a jubilant Nancy are KelleyBusby, Peggy Proctor, Shannon Gorrel,Heidi Eberhardt, Debbi Wilgoren, and Mamie Curry in a terrifically groovy hat. Raymond Derayna, Michael Travers '55, Peter Bernard '56, Bill Kelsey '87, Peter Donat '87, Peter Krehbiel '87, and ElizabethWhitmore look on admiringly. Nancy, who received a master's from Cornell in historic preservation planning, reports that she and Mark spent the summer bungee jumping and playing golf, shedding their respective identities of non-profit fund-raising consultant and Chem-Banker. Nancy and Mark live in and commute from Fanwood, N.J.

Cupid's arrows hit their mark regardless of geography. David Heisterkamp II, currently in his third year at the University of Colorado Law School, married law classmate Jennifer Bales last August. Jennifer, who has a degree in electrical engineering, is now gearing toward intellectual property and patent law and raising a family, David hints. Before the wedding, David logged more than 400 probono hours providing legal representation for native Americans in the Denver area, as well as for tribes from New Mexico, Montana, and South Dakota. With studies concentrating in environmental law and native American rights, David hopes to clerk in tire Denver area after graduation, and to continue his work with native Americans.

In attendance at the nuptials were DerekHansel, Bob Walter, Jeff Zarse, WayneShammel, and Doris Heinen, who wed Wayne Key in Austin, Texas, just a week later. Wayne Shammel, who married Susan, Black (UNH '89) in November, has moved to Boulder and practices law in Denver with Faegre & Benson. David reports that KenjiCunnion, who at last call was at Duke Med School, is now married to Laura Khilstrom.

Walter Colsman embarked at Harvard B-School in the fall. IBM mogul EverettMcCassey has bought a house near Austin for his wife, Micki, who spent the last year on active duty in Korea. David pleads for news from Laura Hartwell and Heather Hicks.

The Seven-Year Hitch: They met at a River Cluster Halloween party freshman year. I offered an exit if she wished to escape the random guy who persisted in dancing with her. She said no. Nearly seven years later, on Labor Day, they both said yes, forever. Liz Bleich and Dave Nerrow were wed at Rollins Chapel in the company of Dave Cushner,Beth Kanzer, Jim Knopf, Jen Kochman,Les Morant, Suzanne Murphy, NancyObler, Esteban Oyenque, Dan Parish, BobReetz, Mike Saperstein ("The Bod"), MarcSaroff, Barney Silver, John Vanhouser, and maid of honor Rani Sellers. Best wishes to you all from "The Hound." Liz is happily working toward a master's in elementary education in Brookline, Mass., teaching sixth grade on an internship. Dave works in venture capital and plans to attend business school.

That's all from Cupid right now. Happy Valentine's Day!
