Playwright

McCutchen's 1990 play AWalk on LakeErie, which won a national award from the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, opens in London in June 1993. Another off-Broadway production, Three a.m., won the University of Iowa's Best Play Award in 1989 and led New York-based reviewer Tom Wachunas to proclaim, "It's one of those plays that perhaps heralds the appearance of vital, lasting talent that we can look forward to encountering again in the not too distant future." Another play, AlabamaRain, is scheduled to open in March in San Francisco, and a screenplay, "Better Him than Me," has just been completed. Even from her unlikely home in Irving, Texas, McCutchen is current Playwright-in-Residence for the Home for Contemporary Theater and Art in New York City. "I'll eventually end up back in New York," she says. "That's where the action is."

McCutchen'splays are a hit.
