Charles Tseckares, FAIA, is president of CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares Inc. in Boston, and he has been selected an associate to the J.W. Clark Company as well. The latter firm is dedicated to design and construction counseling, including and emphasizing the prevention and resolution of construction-related disputes. It will be hard for the disputants to stand up to Charlie's wealth of background and experience. Besides being a founder and principal of the CBT, which he helped form in 1967, and which has received 75 national and regional awards, Charlie also was a Fulbright Scholar way back when.

"Peace Themes in Art" is the subject of a lecture by Bowdoin professor of art history and criticism Clifton Olds. Among Cliff's examples are La Guerre at La Paix by Picasso. After graduation from Dartmouth Cliff got his Ph.D. in Renaissance art history from U-Penn and taught in California and Michigan before coming to Bowdoin in Maine ten years ago. Cliff's other interests include gourmet cooking and sailing.

Christopher Wren wrote a great note saying that after 17 years as a foreign correspondent (most recently Johannesburg bureau chief for The New York Times, and previously bureau chief in Moscow, Cairo, Beijing, and Ottawa) he has returned to New York to try management as editor of new projects at the Times. Chris says, "now I find myself with the game wardens instead of running with the poachers." His first responsibility will be to coordinate the news content of The New York Times News in Review, a Russian-language edition whose circulation has already risen to over 120,000 in the former Soviet Union. Imagine just a very few years ago getting that view of the news within the former Soviet Union. Among Chris's other interests: a few years ago he was part of an American team that attempted a new ascent of Mt. Everest through Tibet and most recently he earned the black belt in Japanese shotokan karate. He says, "If you plan to become a dirty old man it seems only prudent to take some precaution."

I note that our old fraternities are coming back to the Dartmouth fold after their rebellion. SAE voted to reaffiliate, as did my old house Sigma Nu. AD is on die way—a reconciliation that Dean Lee Pelton seems to have orchestrated well.

Finally, the Campaign to Excel has reached $236 million, 55 percent of its $425-million goal. A great achievement in a down economy, yet again showing the alumni's loyalty and confidence in the College on the Hill.

Hope to hear from more of you this month.
