When we last talked there I was, lead vocalist in our rock 'n roll band Sue 'N the Bastards, wondering what true stardom would be like and whether I could borrow my friend Vickie's black leather skirt. Well, little did I know the intricacies of the life of a musical artist. First, we had to invite a doctor/professor from the medical school because we couldn't find one lawyer on the faculty or in the administration who could bang on the drums. Then there was the high-tech problem. As far as I was concerned, "unplugged" was a synonym for the iron being off, so we had to hire someone from the engineering school to get this band up to speed. Third, just try to get six lawyers and a timid ob-gyn drummer to agree on what kind of music, how loud, and who leads. We had to call a communications summit to get over that hurdle. But anyway, we're making great music right now, plugged in and everything.
Congratulations to Judge Peter Ashman who has been retained as judge for the Third Judicial District in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough of Alaska. Peter came to Alaska in the 1980s and served as a magistrate in Dillingham from 1982 to 1983 before returning to the Anchorage-Mat-Su area, where he served as a public defender and judge. Peter and his wife, Kay, and two daughters Jenny 8 and Elizabeth 3 live in Palmer, home of the Alaska State Fair.
This must be Alaska month because another featured classmate from that magical place is Dan O'Haire, who was featured recently in the Anchorage Daily News as the organizer of Park Watch. Park Watch is an effort by the Alaska Mountaineering Association and R.E.I, to eliminate vandalism of cars at park trailheads in Chugach State Park.
