ROLE MODEL. Remem- ber the line, "Youth and competence are no match for old age and treachery"? Let it never be said that the perpetrator of this column is 1) young or 2) above employing wile and devious means to achieve an end. The end this time is surprise! getting more of you to make it to Hanover next month. The shining, though unwitting, example to follow is Johnny Mercer who mentioned that 1) he would be coming to this reunion, and 2) he has made almost all reunions, including the fall minis. Johnny mentioned these points in a clear, cheery voice that belied the high fever he was running. So there you have it. If Johnny comes, should you be left behind?
FAME AND FORTUNA. Anyone who can boast of having eight grand and three great-grandchildren, including one born on New Year's Day, has an undeniable claim to fame. Lou Fortuna has all this going for him, plus a successful Tinker/Evers/Chance (read that three-way) bypass. Among other things, Lou recalls cruising around the area with the late Sox Calder when Soxie was hosting Union Camp junkets, and both were directors of Georgia's Southern National Bank. Adedicated Rotarian, Lou started the Sandy Springs, Ga., Rotary and served as Southeastern Enrollment Chairman. He reports that Lou Frick is not really up to par, and Charlie Moses had a man-sized operation. Lou sometimes gets to stay with EarlWard at reunion times, and he will definitely be there in June. Wink, wink; nudge, nudge; say no more, say no more!

Jack Reichardt, whose son is D'73 and whose talented granddaughter is qualified for and is seeking early admission to D'97, is happy as a clam, living in the boonies, and savoring the clean, unpolluted air. Jack is still an avid skier, still whizzing down the slopes with the speed of an antelope. Nonetheless, a visit to Costa Rica is not considered poor form, especially since Libby is gung-ho for warm weather. Jacksonville, Fla. Tom Sheehan can be seen from time to time in Scituate, Mass. Birmingham., Mich. An erstwhile Commodore of the Dartmouth Sailing Club, JoeShenstone has seen a lot of sailing since those days, including some big-time racing in Chicago's Mackinaw, a challenge he's met seven times. Connie and their son help him trim sail and tend jib on their Cal 45, a mighty fine craft.
