I ran into a few '87s at a recent party in Darien, Conn., and was amazed to find Nigel Eckern is one of the few people I know still living in N.Y.C. and enjoying it! Not satisfied with just one graduate degree, he is working towards a combined J.D./M.B.A. from NYU. Kirsten Anthony arrived at this same gathering from New Haven, where she has setded after leaving the West Coast. She is considering her choice of business schools for the fall.
Nigel reminisced fondly about a recent visit with Greg Garre and Rick Pepperman in Washington, D.C. Apparendy the boys were able to fit in a pick-up hoops game on the hallowed fourth floor of the Supreme Court. Rick and Greg were clerking for Chief Justice Rehnquist. Rick earned his law degree at U-Penn. and then clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. Greg attended George Washington Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
Doctor-in-love Abdish Bhavsar announced his engagement to Mona Shah. Abdish is currendy doing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary in Chicago, and understandably can't wait to get married to his pediatrics-resident fiancee. Another powerful doctor-doctor duo.
Short clips: Lauren Arnold is enrolled in a joint master's program for international affairs at U-Penn and Johns Hopkins. Elizabeth Weidberg left her marketing job at Gillette in Boston to take a job at Del Monte in San Francisco. Glen Lerner, who matriculated with us and later transferred to Duke, called to say he has his own law practice in Las Vegas called Budget Legal. He enjoys that sinful city but misses the beauty of the East Coast. He hopes to hear from classmates passing through.
Shuffling off to Buffalo: Hope Castiglione Gower lives there with her husband and oneyear-old daughter Victoria Grace. Robin Appleby completed her Ph.D. in English at SUNY-Buffalo, where she was a speechwriter for the university's president. She landed a position teaching English and conducting alumni affairs at the Nichols School, my old stomping grounds.
Ben Moynihan performs with D'Moja, an African drumming ensemble which plays regularly around Vermont and New Hampshire. A professional drummer for six years, Ben studied drumming in Dakar, Senegal, and with several well-known percussionists a far cry from the Collis coffeehouse.
Finally, Brian Dolan had the dubious honor of being featured in his hometown paper's article about the World Trade Center explosion. "I was waiting for the building to fall," said Brian, who was sitting in his office on the 49th floor, where he trades currency for the Japanese Dai Ichi Kangyo Bank, Ltd. After he left the building safely, guided by a single flashlight, his first reaction was typical—he went to a bar and had a couple of drinks. Glad you're OK, Brian. Hope you're having a fabulous summer!
