Congratulations to Rob Bannerman, son of departed classmate Bob Bannerman, for his acceptance as a Dartmouth Presidential Scholar. Rob's mother, Claire, still residing in Great Falls, Va., sends best regards to the class and especially to KentGraham, Marsh Potterton, and Bill Sadd, all present at the 30th.

More from the 30th: if you have not yet ordered, you may want to purchase RossBurkhardt's Mm of our Age—Reflections of a Generation, with all sale proceeds—thanks to Ross's generosity—going to the 1962 Faculty Fellowship. Our 1993 Fellowship recipient is Susan Ackerman 'BO, Department of Religion. Susan's Ph.D thesis, "Under Every Green Tree" (Scholar's Press, Atlanta), is a study of popular religions in ancient Israel. Her winning proposal is to study women in The Book Of Judges. Susan, a popular teacher who hails from Arkansas, teaches an independent study course on the Bible in public policy. Thanks to Dan Tompkins for his continued efforts on behalf of the fellowship program.

News comes from Blair Academy that Sandy Apgar, who attended the 30th with Ann and their two young children, has established the Apgar Award for Teaching Excellence at his alma mater. Sandy's support of education and educators continues! James T. Hale was recendy awarded a silver plaque for exceptional service by The National Retailers Federation. Jim is senior vice president of Dayton Hudson Corporation, Minneapolis.

David L. Smith, who many recall gave an outstanding presentation on oil economics at our 25th, brought to the reunion copies of his latest quarterly report, "Cyclical Investing Contrarian Forecast and Insight." For money managers or those having money to manage, subscription to David's reports is essential and profitable.

Other participants at the 30th include old roomie Jim Haines with wife Marnie; Dennis and Ingrid Barnes; Dave and MurielArmstrong, and good buddy Paul Weinberg. Notedly and sorely missed were Dickand Fran Zartler. Dick was recently named president and CEO of Canonie Environmental Services Corp., which presumably will mean a relocation from their present Richardson, Texas, home. Also missed were Craig andCynthia Dorman. Craig recently announced his resignation as director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. After an August/September vacation trip to Alaska, Craig plans to devote his expertise and experience to national-security issues relating to the oceans.

Paul Tsongas, as a former competitive swimmer, won the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Gold Medallion Award for his outstanding contributions and achievement in the field of government. Before running for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1992, Paul spent more than 25 years in publie lie service, including nine years in the U.S. Congress, and served one term in the Senate and two terms in the House in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Many of President Clinton's economic directions can be attributed to Paul's detailed economic plan presented in A Call to Economic Arms: Forging aNew American Mandate.

Bill Shanahan, last year appointed president and chief operating officer of ColgatePalmolive, was recently elected to the board of directors of The Molson Companies, Ltd. Richard Highter has been elected chairman of the School Administrative Unit 32 Board, covering the towns of Grantham, Lebanon, and Plainfield, N.H.

I hope eventually to report news on all reuning '62s, as well as all classmates and family, so keep those cards and letters comingparticularly now that the summer heat and Midwest flooding are hopefully over.

We just received word of the untimely death of John Cushman on June 27. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Madeline, his four daughters, and his mother, Kathryn. An obit will appear in a later issue.
