We feel sad indeed to be receiving more news of I classmates who have died than of those who are alive and would likely enjoy learning what their Dartmouth friends are doing.
There have been a few notes lately. One from Laura Sadler, widow of Curly Sadler '28, who was glad to learn from our column the whereabouts of Squeek Redding. Laura was recovering from a cataract operation.
A letter came from Kingsbury Badger's wife, Mary, letting us know that King died in August at home in South Weymouth, Mass., from complications of Alzheimers disease. He had been a professor of English literature for 27 years at Boston University, and before that at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. King's hobby was painting, which he enjoyed sharing with others by giving classes on weekends. I re-read his delightful account of the life he had led up to the 25th Reunion. Our 25th Yearbook is much used and a favorite volume in our bookshelves.
Polly Chinlund, looking great, and Rip enjoyed sitting together for lunch recently at the Montshire Museum. (Your scribe waited tables!) That day former dean of the Medical School Bob McCollum and wife Audrey flew their "Magic Carpet" to Papua New Guinea.
We have two more deaths to report: JohnRistine in Ft. Lauderdale, and Frazier "Jerry" O'Leary in Sun City Center, Fla. Neither stayed four years, but they are warmly remembered by classmates.
We extend our sympathy to Mary Badger, Dorothy Ristine, and Ruth O'Leary and their families.
Rip adds to these notes: With the wisdom of age I know how things should go, And where everything should belong. But I'm still getting older and starting to know That I may have the whole thing wrong.
