Fifty-four classmates, wives, widows, and friends enjoyed the 30th minireunion of our class on September 23-24 in Hanover. Russ Stearns and Charlie Blaisdell claim they have attended every mini. The weather was superb, the dinners were delicious, and the friendship and sociability gets better with age. The long-distance travelers were Don and Helen McKinlay from Denver and Bill and Dot Heroy from Durham, N.C. It was good to see Dave andJune Camerer again and their grandson Robin, age four, who quickly made friends with everyone.

Dick Jaeger, director of athletics, spoke at our Friday night dinner in the Wheelock Room of the Inn. He told us that Dartmouth fields 34 different teams on the varsity level. He said, "What goes on outside the classroom, when these young men and women rub shoul- ders and practice teamwork and go through the adversity of losing and the thrill of win- ning and hopefully learn the art of humility when [they] win, provides the challenge to have the best possible coaches and facilities for the students. One sport for an individual is now a year-round endeavor, as you have year-round weight training, distance running, and NCAA-sanctioned out of season practices and then the regular season." In response to a question about the freshman trips, he said about 80 percent go on a variety of trips which include fishing, canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, and kayaking.

President Russ told us that the Financial Aid Office had designated Marisa Bassett '97 as our scholarship student for the next three years. This was a popular appointment as Marisa is the granddaughter of Chuck andBetty Bassett and the daughter of Tom Bassett '67.

After the class meeting Saturday morning, we adjourned to the Collis patio where the three benches provided by the class were dedicated to Charlie and Ellen Collis with appropriate words spoken by Russ Stearns, Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs Stan Colla '66, Dean of the College Lee Pelton, and Holly Sateia, director of student life and the Collis Center.

We all missed regular mini attendee MonkAmon, who died in Reading, Mass., on September 14.
