Winter arrives soon with the solstice on December 21. Hanukkah has ended and Christmas is less than two weeks away. The happy, holy, hectic, holiday season is upon us. Have you performed an act of charity by sending me, your news-hungry class secretary, a greeting card with a word or two about yourself or a classmate?

Could you possibly spare a copy of your end of the year family newsletter? Don't worry. Trust me. I won't publish any obviously private items contained therein (e.g. arrests, convictions, hair implants, tummy tucks, etc.).

If you don't want me to attribute news about a classmate to you as my source, let me know and I'll contact our classmate myself. All I need is leads. Give me leads!

In October in Boston, Mark Harty, a partner of the law firm Morrison, Mahoney & Miller, was re-elected to the American Law Firm Association's national board of directors. During the past year, he served as secretary of the association. Mark concentrates his practice in the area of defense of personal-injury and professional-liability claims. He is also the regional vice president for New England of the Defense Research Institute, which serves civil-litigation defense attorneys nationwide.

Fred has toured extensively with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the Ray Charles Orchestra, and played with Oscar Peterson and Peter Nero among others. He also holds appointments on the music faculties of both Dartmouth and Middlebury.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. A newspaper in Tulsa, Okla., reported that Lewis Carter's undergraduate work in Latin American studies and a tour of duty in Paraguay as a Peace Corps worker prior to receiving a law degree in 1990 from the University of Oklahoma moved him and another bilingual attorney from the Tulsa law firm of Doerner & Stuart to donate one night a week counseling Spanish-speaking people with civil and criminal law problems.

Two years ago Lewis offered his service pro bono to the Tulsa Catholic Charities Office, which operated the program at St. Francis Our Lady of Guadeloupe church. Lewis's bilingual ability helps his Spanish-speaking clients understand how the American legal system works and differs from the systems of their native countries.

Lender in search of borrowers and investors: Bill Hatch has been named a vice president, senior loan officer, and senior investment officer of Ledyard National Bank in Hanover.

Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group Inc. has named RickRouthier of New Canaan, Conn., president of sales and merchandise. Although our class won't become officially affiliated with the College's Bequest & Trusts program until our 25th Reunion, it's not too soon to consider Dartmouth in your estate planning. Over the years the bequest program has generated more than $291 million to support endowment and plant needs. Think about it.

On behalf of all of your class officers, I wish you many blessings and much happiness for this holiday season and the coming New Year.
