The '36 mini-reunion last fall was, as usual, a great success. There were more than 50 classmates, spouses, widows, and friends assembled in Hanover for all or part of the weekend of October 22-23. The Friday and Saturday evening dinners, at Dowd's Country Inn and Lyme Inn, respectively, provided good food and a chance to chat with old friends—in spite of the less-thanperfect acoustics. On the sunny Saturday afternoon the weather turned quite chilly before the football game with Cornell was over. However, those of us who stayed until the end of the game were well rewarded with an exciting come-from-behind 28-27 victory by the Big Green. After the game Paul and JackieGuibord hosted the group at their attractive home in the woods of Etna, providing a respite for Bob and Tanna Fernald, who left the next day for their winter quarters in Punta Gorda, Fla.
The absence of Paul Lynch, who had died on October 19 in Greenwich, Conn., was especially noted. Paul made many contributions to the class, including a stint as secretary, but he will probably be remembered best as the one who most often supplied the "music for our singing." At class gatherings, if there was a piano available, Paul would play not only the old familiar Dartmouth songs but also almost any tune from the thirties or forties that we requested. We shall miss him. At the memorial service helf for Paul in Greenwich Bob Button was a eulogist, and Jackson Smith was an usher.
On November 2 Bill Niss hosted a noontime gathering of a few '36ers at his home in Cumberland Foreside, Maine. In addition to Bill and the Martindales, the group consisted of Ed and Helen Higbee, Brad Chase,Dede Foster, Phyllis England, Pete Fitzherbert, Jean Parker, and Isabelle Pounder. A very pleasant mini-mini.
Our spring mini-reunion will be on Class Officers Weekend, the first weekend in May. The fall gathering will be early this year, September 23-24, when the football team plays its first Ivy League game of the season against Penn. Make your plans soon!
