Exerpted from The Cincinnati Downtowner: The Gradison Division of McDonald & Co. Securities has announced John E. Tobias's promotion to first vice president. He has been with them for 23 years and has been in the brokerage business since 1955. "Tobe" has made a lot of money buying and selling, and is still loyal to the Reds and the Bengals. (Big Ernie Lobardi was his favorite.)

The Dunbury (Conn.) News Times had a great article about pediatrician Bob Joy: "To bid farewell to Joy and Goldman, Pediatric Associates is having an open house for friends and patients at its office, 84 LocustAve., Danbury."

Described is the pediatric practice Bob and his partner Alvin Goldman opened in 1960. A Vermont native, Bob was a couple of years out of Dartmouth Med School, and his partner, a Brooklyn kid, had studied at the University of Zurich. They both remember an astonishing number of patients—their names, where they went to school, what they did for a living, and what their parents used to do. Bob remembers a parent who always insisted he sit down for a glass of Galliano after a house call. Then there was the grandmother who used to make him stuffed grape leaves when he came for a visit.

Now that he has some time on his hands, Bob plans to spend more of it with his wife, Nancy, a retired English teacher. They have a daughter and two grandchildren nearby in Windsor, a garden, a study full of books Bob wants to read, and a yen to travel. (Go to it, I say; you've earned it.)

John Leggat weighs in with the fact that he and his foursome have now achieved 31 rounds of golf in Ireland and Scotland without having an umbrella in the air! This took them three visits, and that sounds like a record to me. Can anybody out there beat that?

Compared to the football game with UNH at our mini last October, the win in Hanover over Harvard was spectacular! Irv Graves wrote that on October 30 he saw "the greatest fourth quarter of football ever." After it looked hopeless, the Big Green came from behind, scoring 17 passing points in the final quarter to beat the Crimson. He had just about recovered when he wrote, and is looking forward to another great season. (Who will replace Fiedler? They seem to come up with a good, new QB every time they need one. Keep your fingers crossed.)

Back in early November, Frank Hutchins reported 18 inches of snow at his Lake Clear hideaway in the Adirondacks. That didn't stop the group of Rochesterites he invited for the weekend. They swept off the courts and had a hot game of paddle tennis. (No doubt followed by a few rounds of the wassail bowl.)

Bob Fisher, hard at work organizing our 50th Reunion gift to the college, reports he and Greta thoroughly enjoyed their first mini-reunion ever, last October. They're both already looking forward to next year's affair. (For those with new 1994 calendars, mark the date NOW: October 14-15.)

Thought for a new year: "It's redundant to call something 'a new beginning.'"
