I took the opportunity in November to watch the football team on its biannual visit to New York. I saw an exciting game, Bruce Coslet, and no classmates. For those who could care less, this beats my telling you about my current dilemma whether I will find time to do laundry before I need to buy more underwear.

From Williamstown we hear that DavidDethier was promoted to full professor of geology. Dave directs Williams's Hopkins Memorial Forest, and he has also served as director of the Bronfman Science Center and as chair of the Science Executive Committee. He teaches courses in environmental geology, including "Geomorphology" (will postdoc rock Shirey give me a call on this?) and "Water and the Environment" (I am OK on this one). His major research interests, funded by grants from several government departments, include the glacial geology of western Washington and the effects of acid rain on the geochemistry of surface-water systems and the geomorphology of the Rio Grande rift in New Mexico (properly used in a sentence).

In the medical world, Dr. John Dagianis of Nashua Eye Associates has been certified as an international affiliate by the International Surgical Eye Expeditions in recognition of his work against blindness.

Former South Fayerite Frank Sullivan has been appointed to the Indiana Supreme Court by Governor Evan Bayh. Frank, who had been Indiana's budget director for four years, becomes the youngest member of the Supremes, bringing his expertise in business, commercial law, and government operations to the Court—but he needs to work on his singing. He was recently named by the governor to chair the Special Committee on Welfare Property Tax Controls, which is addressing the problem of escalating property taxes to fund welfare programs. One of Frank's greatest accomplishments as budget director was helping the state to avoid a tax increase during the 1990-91 recession despite decreased state revenues. He denies any involvement with the Colts, either taking them from Baltimore or their current problems. Frank's wife, Cheryl, is the secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, the state's largest agency. They have three sons, Mike, Rob, and Chip.

Alpha Theta frat bro' Dave Stephenson sent a really nice letter which included some fond memories of John Kemeny. Dave has an interesting dual career: he practices law and writes papers and presents lectures on cultural anthropology as it relates to our changing world (sounds like a New York State Regents Exam question). His ten-year-old son is active in numerous sports and is doing well in school. His wife is also a lawyer, a partner for Kutak Rock (try one for the Gipper), and earns barely enough money to support Dave's expensive hobbies—travel, skiing, tennis, and general outdoor recreation. Dave has also been active in politics as one of Colorado's two representatives at the Democratic National Convention on the Platform Committee, and he attended the National Platform Committee meeting in D.C. He is involved with the Dartmouth Lawyers' Association, participating in its project to help to reduce hunger in the world.

Keep the news coming. Hope you all have dates for Carnival.
