Not all of the classmates went into hibernation for the winter. A couple of notes received recently indicate that some of us still go places and do things. The first was from our premier politico, Governor of New Hampshire from 1955 to 1959, Lane Dwinell. Evidently his conscience was hurting him. He admitted reading the Class Notes (with interest?) but had never contributed anything. This was to let me know that he and Elizabeth had just returned from a trip to Rome, around the western Mediterranean to Casablanca and Lisbon, then back this way to Fort Lauderdale. Later they were going to Sarasota for their usual three months. He seems to think this is hardly worth reporting, but to me it sounds like hyperactivity.
Then came a note from Edwin Drechel '30 to report his attendance at a festive gettogether of 47 family and friends of LouiseTaylor, wife of Tavey Taylor, celebrating her 80th birthday.
Speaking of celebrations, Paula and I celebrated our 60th anniversary December 15 last at a wingdinger put on by our children. The ceremony in 1933 took place at the American Consulate in Yokohama on a Saturday afternoon. The consul general was out playing golf, so the vice consul presided. Later I discovered a vice consul lacks the authority to marry anyone. Have Paula and I been living in sin for 60 years? If so all I can say is, as a way of life, I can highly recommend it.
