With four-plus years of writing columns for the DAM I finally found a solution for the lack of feedback. All I had to do was misstep on an item about the clan, and letters flowed.
Jack Kilmartin wrote, "You mentioned that our class of '49 entered in the fall and some in I, July. You forgot the I distinguished group of '49ers who entered in March. These were the original '49ers. Some of the graduates, such as myself, graduated in '48 due to the head start, but most of us retained our original class designation, which is '49. I definitely plan on attending the reunion in June. As a matter of fact, I also plan on making the mini-reunion in Florida."
Then another letter from Robert J. Weber: "Saw the letter from my old roommate GeneMiller. Gene and I were charter members of the '49 civilian members from February of 1945.1 went off to the army after three semesters and returned in 1956, some ten and a half years later, married with two children, as an honorary member of the class of 1958. I was lucky enough to be well motivated after the long absence and went for a Ph.D. from Princeton, taught for some 12 years at Berkeley, Indiana University, and Wesleyan Universty, and then switched into a law career with a short stint of teaching law, and then into practice in Los Angeles. After two divorces I'm retired here in Mojitecito, Calif., where two of my five children live."
Also heard from Ted Krug, who is enjoying winters in Lake Wales, Fla., and summers up north in Connecticut, a preferred annual schedule for many of our retirees.
Our 45th Reunion in June is shaping up for June 13-16. A joint Big Band dance with 1948 and '50, golf and tennis tournaments, tent entertainment, picnic by the river, and a series of lunches, dinners, and receptionsall for approximately $200 per person. How could you have a better vacation in New England, seeing old friends, roommates, and fraternity brothers at such a great time to be in Hanover?
You also can expect that there will be some seminars of intellectual interest, a chance for some to see how the campus has changed, and your classmates as well. Be sure and sign up for this event.
