The 45th Reunion is behind us and the 50th looms. Let us hope that that coming milestone is as good as the one we just celebrated. Three days of near-perfect weather were enjoyed by 120 '49 ers—from Adler John, to Yates,William—plus wives or significant others in most cases.

Gold Pick Axe Awards were won by AllenBrooks and by John Kent Cooley, who, since he lives in Cyprus, Nicosia, also took home the award for the longest distance traveled. Allen's citation noted his lifelong career as a student and teacher of architecture, with a strong focus on Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. John was honored for his many years as a foreign correspondent for, among other media, ABC News, NBC, the Christian Science Monitor, Foreign Affairs, and the International Herald Tribune. Together, Allen and John have written or edited a couple of dozen books. Actually, they wrote them separately—but then, how many have you written?

You have a new phalanx of class officers, elected without too much controversy at the reunion. During the run-up to the sOth, JohnStearns will serve as president, Burt Proom as vice president, Robert "Swifity" Swift as treasurer, and the undersigned will be reporting to you as secretary. There is an executive committee with far too many names to mention here, and President Stearns will be appointing willing candidates for positions such as class agent, bequest chairman, and the like. Skip Ungar has already been named to continue as newsletter editor, an appointment received with acclamation after it was announced that he is switching from limericks to haiku. Or maybe it was sonnets. What-ever.

One of our adopted classmates, Thad Seymour, regaled us at the closing dinner with his usual store of academically oriented stories. You didn't know academically was that funny—or did you? Thad also worked in numerous thought-provoking truisms. (We missed our deputy rregaler. John Rassias.)

Miscellaneous items: Outgoing treasurer Bob Muenzberg reported a balance of $176.40, which won't cover a lot, but that's just the cash; there's also a CD somewhere. Wyoming rancher Dave Raynolds reported that he has about 100 buffalo, not nickels, the real thing. And Paul Bjorklund won the beanbag toss for the second reunion in a row. Some other people won tennis and golf prizes.

Want reportage other than from the reunion? Okay, first the bad news: recently a prominent supermarket tabloid stated that 12 U.S. senators are space aliens, including John Glenn (well, he did go into space) and Sam Nunn. The good news is that SladeGorton was not one of the 12. Now, that's the sort of news your secretary will have to use month after month unless you report good stuff through the appropriate channels: a postcard or a letter to the address below, or a phone call to (802) 333-9963. And those of you who are PC-oriented—that's personal computer, not the other thing—can reach me via a DAM e-mail communique at .
