I hope you had a great summer vacation and have come back refreshed and ready for your sophomore year. Since you've all been busy, I'll get right to the news. Joel Hyatt has won the democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Ohio. As we read, his campaign is in full swing for the contest in which he'll take on the lieutenant governor in November. Joel won the nomination with 46 percent of the vote, compared to 44 percent for his opponent (a difference of 16,000 votes). In other news from Clevelanders, Bill Schur and his wife Donna '77 had another baby boy, David Elliot, last December. The B-man reports mother, son, and his brother are all doing well. He also reports that two Clevelanders in Chicago, Jim Gottschalk and Fred Crossman, are also doing well. Now, those of us who know Fred would not put "Fred" and "well" in the same sentence, but then B just had a baby, and the world all looked rose-colored.

Dr. Jon Thatcher, onetime pole vaulter extraordinaire, has joined the staff of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital as an orthopedic surgeon. After Dartmouth Jon received his master's degree in biomedical engineering from Clemson and his medical degree from Boston University. He worked as a prosthetics engineer and has written several papers on prostheses. He served his internship in general surgery at Mary Hitchcock and his residency at U-Mass-Worcester. Jon, I would like to reserve a few minutes at our 25 th Reunion to discuss knee replacements.
That's all for now. By the time you read this, my cheers of "Let's go Rangers" and "Let's go Knicks" will be ancient history and the A.L. East pennant race will have my attention.
