The Alumni Fund is history. We did not make our goal, but we still raised a considerable amount. Thank you for all your help. We'll give you the final figures in my next chapter.
I tried to reach out for some classmates whom I, and probably you too, haven't heard from since way back when. Here goes! BillHart has been happily retired up in Newport, Vt., since 1989. He spent years with SWECO Mechanical in several spots in the Northeast. His daughter runs Project North Star at the College. She's probably a math wizard like her father.
I mentioned George Glass in my last effort via an interview with Harry Colmery. Got George himself this time, out in Oceanside, Calif. He's still in real estate. He retired four years ago but is back in business now with his son. Another great golfer—if I heard right, says 8 or 9 handicap. Bill Hart's is about three times that, but I wouldn't tell you.
Joe Quig lives in Milton, Del. That's down on the bay near Rehoboth Beach. He retired from DuPont in 1974. He spends a lot of time in Florida during winters. Yes, plays golf, and around 14—probably whacks the ball like a baseball, and he was pretty good at that. Good to talk to you, Joe—haven't since college.
Rod Beach retired after 13 years as headmaster of a private school in Annapolis, Md. He spendt most of his career in private education after an early stint with DuPont. Rod's been retired since 1989. A man of the water, he sculls on the Severn River. He told me a daughter just entered Dartmouth Medical School.
Dr. Jim Boyes is in Weddington, N.C. He was a specialist in reconstructive hand surgery, practicing last in the Charlotte area. He's been retired now for 12 years. Also a rower of boats, but a bigger hobby is cycling. He was slated to cycle the Loire Valley but had a little setback. He's now rounding into shape and expects to make the trip shortly. He'd seen Jim Pettit recently. Jim's in Charlotte.
Who remembers (besides me) Bill MacDougall? Crosby Hall, 1942.. Found him in Salisbury, Conn. He's been retired from PanAm for ten years after flying for 37, finishing up as senior pilot. Bill went off to the USAAF with the Dartmouth Squadron, flew with the 8th, and got shot down. But his present exploits make all that seem child's play. Big-game hunter, trans-Atlantic sailor, member of the Explorer's Club. An ice-breaker fan who sails around Greenland, he throws names like Mozambique and Baffin Bay around like you and I say Hanover and Lebanon. Had a long phone talk with Bill and was enthralled—and with my questionable background, I don't easily enthrall. Bill, please come to the reunion and tell us all.
Speaking of reunions, don't forget our mini in October, and Chairman Jim von Rohr asked me to note it's not too early to be thinking about our 50th. That's it for now. Hope you enjoyed the summer.
