Previews of my October column, which I regularly send to Messrs. Fenton, Keene, and Wolf, elicited favorable comments from Bill and Ted, concerning a 1930 gathering centered on the annual May Class Officers Weekend. Bill proposes, however, and I agree, that it should be pre-COW (i.e., Thursday) rather than post-COW: a gathering near Hanover, somewhere less pricey than Woodstock, with the purpose of considering a class project for the coming five years in addition to having a good time.

I mentioned last month that Bill OBrion had been one of the few Easterners to participate in a Western (Ojai) Reunion. Who were the others? My records from 20 years back, and my equally scattered brain cells, come up with the Frenches, Lows, and Bob Blanchards who, as I recall, had come to Ojai via Hawaii. I apologize for any omissions. But my early correspondence (circa 1971) reveals the interesting historical fact that the Ojai Valley Inn and Country Club, a top-drawer establishment in every respect, charged us $52.50 per day, per couple, American Plan!

As scheduled, back in March maybe, the Chuck Jacobses and I sailed aboard the MS Pearl from Sydney, Australia, for 13 days of cruising and ventures into the north coast of New Guinea. To be sure, we stuck to our groups, and Papua New Guinea is now a sovereign nation. Otherwise, I gather, not much has changed during the three decades since Nels Rockefeller's son went ashore there, never to be seen again. We've just returned, all in tolerably good shape except for jet lag.
