The colors have changed in the North Country. Twenty-five years ago we were well into the fall term of our junior year, with Saturdays spent watching a football juggernaut (unlike life in the Big Apple where Columbia may be the best team in the city).

Speaking of my fair city, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of New York City is pleased to announce the re-election of Dave Mechlin to its executive committee. Dave is one of a select group of 31 men and women on the executive committee. (Dico, take note, our class executive committee is smaller.) Dave continues as president emeritus of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of New York. While on the topic of the DAANYC, Barry Weeks has nothing new to report for our minireunion, news to follow at 11.

From the "Where Are They Now?" file: In Butte, Mont., Jim Masker has been named the World Museum of Mining's first director/curator. Jim has been at the National Center for Appropriate Technology (unrelated to the Ministry of Strange Walks) on and off since 1980 as program manager and director of education. Fie manages federal grants and researches energy and housing issues. He has dabbled as a guitar player in a blues band, married Kim Olson in 1986, and they have two children. From the announcement, his claim to fame was a St. Patrick's Day in the early 1980s when he was dressed for the holiday with a green shamrock covering his face. If you saw this in your newspaper, it was Jim. In addition, Jim is executive director of the Big Flole River Foundation, but contrary to prevailing local use of the river, he does not fish. "I'm a skimmer, I like the surface." Trust me, it means something in Butte.

In other rock news, two Williams College students will travel to the Puget lowland to study the relationships between ice retreats and climate changes in the area. The study, funded by a Petroleum Research Fund grant, will be supervised by David Dethier, Williams College professor of geology. Dave has done extensive research in Washington since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1977. In politics, Charles Schudson has announced his candidacy for the Wisconsin Supreme Court next year to fill a vacancy due to retirement. He is nationally renowned for his knowledge in criminal justice, with particular emphasis on child abuse. William Bisbee is running for the school board of directors in DoverFoxcroft, Me., a position he held in the early 1980s. He is running again now out of a concern for a direction education is taking locally with cuts that are now being considered. He has three daughters in local schools and has worked as a physician's assistant in Dover-Foxcroft, where he has lived for the past 17 years.

Paul Hodes was elected to the board of the Children's Entertainment Association. Paul practices litigation and entertainment law and is president of Roussos, Hage & Hodes of Manchester, N.H. He is also chairman of the board of the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord.

In one last bit of news. I regret to announce the death of Peter Easton after a long illness. As a teammate I will remember his competitive drive and tenacity, and his biting humor. An obituary will follow in a future Alumni Magazine issue.
