I Our number has shrunk to a total of 360 from the 655 men who matriculated in the fall of 1935; this with the passing of Dr. Jim Barr on September 27, and GeorgeBoswell on October 19. (Obits in this or a later issue.)
We received a nice message from BobBryant's wife, Dale, on tasteful note paper which depicts their cozy house at 13 Maple St., Hanover. It was taken from a painting of the Bryant's 1774 homestead, just a block from Main Street, done by Dick Brooks. Both painting and the note paper were gifts from Brooksie and wife Barbara on their visit during the fall. Bob is struggling with emphysema and can't safely go without bottled oxygen. He looked fine when Jim and Doris Corner,Cornie Miller, and your scribe dropped in during the mini-reunion for a brief visit. Dale, who holds a master's degree, says she is enjoying monitoring various courses now that she is so close to the classrooms.
Millie White, Roy's widow, headed to her condo in Naples, Fla., on November 1. She is located at 1222 Gordon Drive, Apt. #4. She has donated Roy's office equipment, computer, printer, desk, etc., and now "has a real guest room for any '39ers coming through." She can be reached at (813) 263-6760 until May, when she'll head north.
Bob and Jean Field have moved from Yarmouthport, Mass., to Riverwoods at Exeter Dixville Village, Apt. D-129, 7 Riverwoods Drive, Exeter, NH 03833. They'll be joining '39ers Betsy Emmons, who, when not in Naples, Fla., can be found in the same complex, and Bill and Robilee Tomkins, who also have quarters there.
We were given a vintage copy of the Dartmouth Pictorial for the class archives. The 1939 Carnival Issue sold for 35 cents. It was edited by Dick Durrance, and except for Dick and Sid Curtis, a member of the photographic board, it was staffed entirely by men m '40, '41, and '42. It was published three times annually, and one could purchase a subscription for $1.00.
From Prexy Bert MacMannis we learned that Doc Tower will be working with WestGoding as assistant chairman of participation. Bert also mentioned that he has learned that three more men have added bequests to the Class Scholarship Fund, which is closing in on three-quarters of a million dollars. This fund, of course, is a legacy that will provide the wherewithal for needy Dartmouth scholars long after we are gone. Our class's largesse will outlive us all.
