An otherwise delightful letter from Liz Mason Zack, the daughter of Les Mason, reports an unfortunate happening to her father that was news to me. It seems that Les was hit by a car while crossing the street in Springfield, Mass., in November 1983. He suffered serious brain damage. He was unconscious for a month and a half, still has difficulty speaking, and resides in the Raritan Health Nursing Home in Raritan, N.J. Liz says he recognizes her but cannot speak her name. She recalls his great love for Dartmouth which, evidently, he instilled in his children. She and her family visited Dartmouth in 1993 and found it everything that they had expected. Her son, still in high school, hopes to be admitted and follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and great-grandfather, Lucius Julius Mason 1893.
ONe Melanie N. Norten director of stewardship, reported to Jack Zellers fairly recently on the status of the 1928 Scholarship Fund. Briefly, contributions to the fund up to June 30, 1994, amounted to $281,046.66. Income released for the benefit of 1928 class scholars was $21,781.04. Thought you'd be interested.
I regret to report the death of Harry Fields. At 95 he was our oldest classmate.
